St. Francis College for Women is a Catholic minority institution which is located in Begumpet, Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
It was founded by the Sisters of Charity of St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa in 1959 for the education of women.
The college derives its inspiration from the teachings of Jesus Christ, who is its "norm, protector, and guide". As a minority institution, the college reserves for itself its inherent and constitutional right (art. 30 [1]) with regard to management and administration. [1] The college was also judged Best Arts College, [2] Best Science College [3] and Best Commerce College [2] in Hyderabad by India Today Magazine.
An American Corner Library was set up at the college by the Consulate General of the United States, Hyderabad in 2013 [4] to provide access to materials and conversations on aspects of life and culture in the United States and nurture an Indo-US partnership. [5]
In August 2019, a new college rule that aimed to regulate the dress code of female students at the college disallowing sleeveless clothing, shorts and kurtis which were above knee length was introduced. Following this in September, girl students were subjected to a measurement check before they could enter the college campus. Several students protested the against the college rule citing its misogynistic nature. [6] In a viral video the college principal Sister Sandra Horta was seen tugging at girl's clothing following which students held protests for several days following which the ad hoc dress code rules were scrapped. Although the rules were scrapped, later on the rule was changed to "knee - length kurtis" in the next academic year. [7]
Hyderabad is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. Osmania University is a collegiate public state university located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad, issued a firman calling for its creation on 29 August 1917. It is the third oldest university in southern India, and the first to be established in the erstwhile Kingdom of Hyderabad. It was the first Indian university to use Urdu as a language of instruction, although with English as a compulsory subject. As of 2012, the university hosts 3,700 international students from more than 80 nations.
Telangana is a state in India situated in the southern-central part of the Indian peninsula on the high Deccan Plateau. It was the eleventh largest state and the twelfth most populated state in India as per the 2011 census. On 2 June 2014, the area was separated from the northwestern part of United Andhra Pradesh as the newly formed state of Telangana, with Hyderabad as its capital. Telugu, one of the classical languages of India, is the most widely spoken and the primary official language of the state.
Rayalaseema is a geographic region in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It comprises four southern districts of the State, from prior to the districts reorganisation in 2022, namely Kurnool, Anantapur, YSR, and Chittoor. Four new districts were created from these, namely Sri Sathya Sai, Nandyal, Annamayya, and Tirupati. As of 2011 census of India, the western four districts of the region had a population of 15,184,908 and cover an area of 77,424 km2 (29,894 sq mi).
Warangal is a city in the Indian state of Telangana and the district headquarters of Warangal district. It is the second largest city in Telangana with a population of 811,844 per 2011 Census of India, and spreading over an 406 km2 (157 sq mi). Warangal served as the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty which was established in 1163. The monuments left by the Kakatiyas include fortresses, lakes, temples and stone gateways which, in the present, helped the city to become a popular tourist attraction. The Kakatiya Kala Thoranam was included in the emblem of Telangana by the state government and Warangal is also touted as the cultural capital of Telangana.
Secunderabad, also spelled as Sikandarabad, is a twin city of Hyderabad and one of the six zones of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the Indian state of Telangana. It is the headquarters of the South Central Railway zone. Named after the Mir Akbar Ali Khan Sikander Jah, Asaf Jah III, Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, Secunderabad was established in 1806 as a British cantonment. Although both the cities are together referred to as the twin cities, Hyderabad and Secunderabad have different histories and cultures, with Secunderabad having developed directly under British rule until 1948, and Hyderabad as the capital of the Nizams' princely state of Hyderabad. Since 1956, the city has housed the Rashtrapati Nilayam, the winter office of the president of India. It is also the headquarter of the 54th Infantry Division of the Indian Army. There are also many apartments and residential areas, particularly in the small neighbourhood of Yapral.
Nizamabad or Induru is a city in the Indian state of Telangana. It is governed by municipal corporation and is the headquarters of the Nizamabad district. Although previously part of Hyderabad State and then Andhra Pradesh state, Nizamabad became a part of the newly formed state of Telangana by the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. It is located about 186 kilometres (116 mi) north of the state capital, Hyderabad.

Maulana Azad National Urdu University is a Central University located in the city of Hyderabad in the Indian state of Telangana. It was named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Minister of Education, a freedom fighter in India's struggle for independence, and a scholar of Islam and Urdu literature. It was the only Urdu university in India until the second university was built in the city of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh in 2015.

The Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology is a private college located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. JNAFAU has two colleges which offer several undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD research programs, with an emphasis of two different colleges: School Of Planning & Architecture and College of Fine Arts. It was established by the erstwhile Hyderabad State in 1940, as the "College of Fine Arts".
