Rivalries

Naomh Moling share an intense hurling rivialry with fellow Blackstairs Mountains club and giant of Carlow hurling Mount Leinster Rangers. Since Rangers first senior title in 2006 the two have dominated Carlow hurling with them winning 19 of the last 20 senior championships between them with Naomh Bríd of Leighlinbridge being the only other club to win the big one in the last two decades. In the last 20 years Naomh Moling have won 7 top-tier titles while Mount Leinster Rangers have won 12. The two arch rivals have also met in the senior final 12 times in 20 years. Both clubs have reached a Leinster final with MLR winning out in 2013 against Oulart-The Ballagh of Wexford in Nowlan Park which was the greatest day in Rangers history. They then won the All-Ireland semi-final against Loughgiel Shamrocks of Antrim however they did lose to Joe Canning's Portumna in the final at Croke Park on St. Patrick's Day. In the 2019 Leinster final St. Mullin's were defeated in Portlaoise by a brilliant Ballyhale Shamrocks team which featured the great TJ Reid. The men from Kilkenny went on to win the All-Ireland that year. The great success of both clubs has led to a fiercely contested derby as both clubs are always desperate to beat each other, this often leads to red cards and il-tempered matches but there is no doubt that the rivalry has done Carlow hurling no harm as their drive to win what often is the Carlow SHC final against each other leads to there being some great hurlers with brilliant attitude and savage commitment for the Carlow senior inter-county team to choose from.
