Stanley Chumfwa (born October 31, 1976) is a Zambian chess player. He is an international master (IM). Chumfwa studied mathematics at the University of Zambia. [1]
In 2003 Stanley Chumfwa won the South African Open chess tournament, held in Centurion. He won the Zambian Chess Championship in 2005. [2]
In November 2005, Chumfwa competed in the African Chess Championship, in Lusaka (Zambia). Ahmed Adly finished first with 7 points from 9 games, while Chumfwa ended third with 6.5 points, thereby qualifying to enter the FIDE Chess World Cup 2005 tournament. [3] In this knockout tournament, 128 participants, Chumfwa was beaten in the first round by Etienne Bacrot, who would later finish in third place.
In 2010 he captained the Zambian team at the Chess Olympiad, in which 148 countries participated. [4] Zambia ended 47.
At the Chess Olympiad 2012, held in Istanbul, Zambia finished 63rd. [5] The Zambian team consisted of Daniel Jere, Stanley Chumfwa, Gillan Bwalya, Andrew Kayonde and Nase Lungu. [6]
In January 2014, Chumfwa participated in the Liyoca Open tournament in Lusaka, [7] finishing 3rd with 6 points from 7 games. [8]
In May 2015 Chumfwa finished 3rd in the 2015 Kafue Chess Open, won by his brother Kelvin. [9]
In July 2015 Chumfwa ended 15th in the South African Open, held in Cape Town. [10]
Kelvin Chumfwa (1986), brother of Stanley, is also a strong chess player (IM).

Antonio finished tied for 3rd-8th places in the 2009 Asian Chess Championship and became the first player in the Philippines' history to qualify for the World Cup later in 2009.
Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi is an Indian chess player who holds the FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and Woman Grandmaster (WGM), the first female player in her country to achieve these titles. She has won more medals than any other player for India in the Chess Olympiads. She has won almost all national age group titles, including the senior title.

He was the youngest Polish player of all time to qualify for the title Grandmaster; he was 14 years and seven months when he achieved this title in 2009. Eugenio "Eugene" Torre is a Filipino chess player. In 1974, at 22 years old, he became the first Filipino and non-Soviet Asian to qualify for the title Grandmaster. Torre did this by winning the silver medal in the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, France. He is considered the strongest chess player the Philippines produced during the 1980s and 1990s, and played for the Philippines on board 1 in seventeen Chess Olympiads. In 2021, Torre was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame.

The city also hosted the event in 2000.

Budisavljević fulfilled requirements for achieving highest chess title Grandmaster on 29 November 2020 when he was exactly 16 years, 10 months and 7 days old, becoming the first Serbian who managed to get such an achievement before 17th birthday.
