Stanley J Wilson was a male athlete who competed for England.

Athletics career

He competed for England in the javelin at the 1934 British Empire Games in London. [1]

Wilson was an early pioneer of the javelin in Britain, represented Birchfield Harriers [2] and was the 1937 AAA champion. [3]

Personal life

He was a student and then a lecturer at Carnegie College of Physical Education, in Leeds and became a notable coach. [4]

Stanley Ernest Walter Cox was a British athlete who competed in two Olympic games in 1948 and 1952. Born in Wood Green, England, he served with Royal Air Force in World War II before competing in the 10,000-metre event at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Unable to participate in the 1950 British Empire Games, he returned to the Olympics in 1952, although he did not complete his event, the marathon, due to the flu. At the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, he suffered a sunstroke and collapsed within two miles (3 km) of the finish. He retired from running in 1956, but continued to work with UK Athletics for several years and was due to participate in the ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Colin George Smith was a British former track and field athlete who specialised in the javelin throw. He was the gold medallist in the event at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, setting a games record mark of 71.29 m to win the title. He returned to defend his title in 1962 and was much improved with a lifetime best throw of 77.94 m, but he was beaten into the silver medal position by Australia's Alf Mitchell.
