The Star Awards for Young Talent is an award presented annually at the Star Awards, a ceremony that was established in 1994.
The Star Awards is an annual ceremony held in Singapore where the media organisation MediaCorp recognises entertainers under their employment for outstanding performances of the year.
The category was introduced in 2002, at the 9th Star Awards ceremony; Shawn Lee received the award for his role in I Not Stupid and it is given in honour of a young talent who has delivered an outstanding performance in a drama series. The nominees are determined by a team of judges employed by Mediacorp; winners are selected by a majority vote from the entire judging panel.
Shawn Lee, born Lee Chuang Rui, is a Singaporean actor. He first came into prominence for his award-winning performance alongside his friend and co-star Joshua Ang in the box office hit I Not Stupid.
Since its inception, the award has been given to 12 young talents. Isabel Yamada is the most recent winner in this category for her role in The Lead . Since the ceremony held in 2011, Regene Lim remains as the only young talent to win in this category thrice, surpassing Lyn Oh and Damien Teo who have two wins each. In addition, Jarren Ho & Ivan Lo has been nominated on four occasions, more than any other young talent. Jarren Ho holds the record for the most nominations without a win.
The Lead is a 30 episode Singaporean drama produced and telecast on Mediacorp Channel 8. The show aired at 9pm on weekdays and had a repeat telecast at 8am the following day. The Series is repeated at 5.30pm on Channel 8 on weekdays after Legal Eagles. The show is Channel 8's mid-year blockbuster for 2017 to remember Mediacorp at Caldecott Hill and to celebrate 35 anniversary years of television dramas. It stars Rebecca Lim, Shaun Chen, Andie Chen, Julie Tan, Chen Hanwei, Xiang Yun, Zheng Geping, Terence Cao & Kym Ng as the casts for this series.
