Star Fleet II: Krellan Commander is a video game and the sequel to Star Fleet I: The War Begins .
This sequel to Star Fleet I was published in 1989 by Interstel Corporation, but was only in production for a few months due to internal problems at Interstel. The game was much more complex and sophisticated than Star Fleet I. It involved many different ships types, including battlecruisers, destroyers, heavy and light cruisers, frigates, troop transports, freighters, scouts, and starliners. Fleet operations were possible and the universe included hundreds of planets to utilize or conquer. It was only released for DOS although versions for the Atari ST and Amiga were under development but never finished.
The game was designed and written by Trevor Sorensen and Mark Baldwin, with planet fractal generator by Dennis Lawler.
The game was released with bugs and needed a patch to be completely operational, [1] but Computer Gaming World reported in 1992 that Interstel "never did get it to run correctly" and that the game's bugs "destroyed the parent company". [2] The DOS version of the game can now be found as freeware [ citation needed ]. Some of the freeware versions of the game are the original flawed game (version 1.0) and not the final patched version (version 1.5B).
In 2018 the original developer, Trevor Sorensen, started to work on Star Fleet II again. In 2020, he released Version 1.5C to playtesters in January. This version had many new features and bug fixes to the previous Version 1.5B. Version 1.5D arrived in March, with even more new features and bug fixes, to playtesters. A more advanced Version 1.6 was released in December. Star Fleet II Version 2.0 was released in November 2023 for sale on Steam and GOG.com. [3] [4] [5]
Star Fleet II: Krellan Commander allows players to command a Krellan battlecruiser with small complement of escort vessels. Like Star Fleet I, Star Fleet II has an officer ranking system using some Roman style names. The sequel improved the graphic appeal, allowed for players to conquer planets, take over enemy starships (commanding Krellan shock troops to go various levels of the ship) and so forth.

The game was reviewed in 1990 in Dragon #154 by Hartley, Patricia and Kirk Lesser in "The Role of Computers" column. The reviewers gave the game 4 out of 5 stars. [7] M. Evans Brooks of Computer Gaming World in 1989 gave the game a mixed review, praising the rich gameplay but noting that a number of bugs and other flaws marred the experience. Brooks also criticized the "primitive" ASCII graphics, slow load times between menus, and the need for a "Tutorial Disk and Training Manual" which was sold separately. [8] In a 1992 survey of science fiction games, Brooks was harsher, giving the title one of five stars and calling it "the stereotypical sequel — i.e. awful" because of the unfixed flaws. [2] A 1994 survey by Brooks of strategic space games set in the year 2000 and later gave the game zero stars, calling it "almost indescribably awful ... sufficiently undeveloped as to destroy the parent company". In 1996, Computer Gaming World declared Star Fleet II the 7th-worst computer game ever released. [9]
Starflight is a space exploration, combat, and trading role-playing video game created by Binary Systems and published by Electronic Arts in 1986. Originally developed for IBM PC compatibles, it was later ported to the Amiga, Atari ST, Macintosh, and Commodore 64. A fully revamped version of the game was released for the Sega Genesis in 1991.
Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula is a 1989 science fiction video game developed by Binary Systems and published by Electronic Arts as the sequel to the successful Starflight. It features a combination of space exploration, role-playing and strategy within a futuristic setting. The player commands a spaceship capable of traveling to the game world's 150 solar systems, communicating with or attacking other spaceships, and landing on planetary surfaces which may be explored with a crewed rover for plot clues, minerals and alien lifeforms. Game mechanics and the overall look and feel closely resemble the earlier Starflight game, but many new features are introduced including an interstellar trade-based economy, new sentient alien races, and new spacecraft accessories and artifacts. The player is tasked with discovering the ultimate source of the advanced spacecraft technology and unlimited fuel supply which provide a military advantage to the Spemin, a hostile alien race threatening to annihilate or enslave humanity. A major part of the game consists of earning enough money to pay for spaceship upgrades and crew training by engaging in interstellar trade and barter with various alien cultures at their planetary trading posts.
Battlecruiser 3000AD is a space trading and combat simulator video game developed by 3000 AD. It was designed by 3000 AD president and lead developer Derek Smart as the studio's first project.
M1 Tank Platoon is a tactical simulator of tank warfare developed and published by MicroProse for the Amiga, Atari ST and MS-DOS in 1989. The game features a mixture of first-person, third-person tank warfare, and tactical simulation gameplay. It was followed by a sequel, M1 Tank Platoon II, released by MicroProse in 1998 for Windows. M1 Tank Platoon was sold to Interplay Entertainment in 2009. M1 Tank Platoon is available on Steam and Epic Games services.

The game features an A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft. Following the success of Red Baron, version 1.5 was released in 1991 which included Gulf War missions and improved graphics and sounds. Several mission packs were sold separately. A sequel published by Sierra, Silent Thunder: A-10 Tank Killer II, was released in 1996.
