Royal Club (officially Star Horn Royal Club sometimes called Royal Club Huang Zu) (pinyin :huang zu; literally: 'royal family') is a Chinese professional League of Legends team that competes in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL). They are the first team to reach the finals of the League of Legends World Championship twice, doing so in 2013 and 2014. The only member of both squads was Jian "Uzi" Zi-Hao. The team was founded in 2012. In 2014 they became sponsored by Star Horn, changing their name to reflect this.

Hanyu Pinyin, often abbreviated to pinyin, is the official romanization system for Standard Chinese in mainland China and to some extent in Taiwan. It is often used to teach Standard Mandarin Chinese, which is normally written using Chinese characters. The system includes four diacritics denoting tones. Pinyin without tone marks is used to spell Chinese names and words in languages written with the Latin alphabet, and also in certain computer input methods to enter Chinese characters.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows and macOS. The game follows a freemium model and is supported by microtransactions, and was inspired by the Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne mod, Defense of the Ancients.

League of Legends Pro League

Tencent League of Legends Pro League (LPL) is the top level League of Legends league in China.The first season of the LPL was the 2013 Spring season. The top three finishers of the playoff tournament receive automatic bids to the League of Legends World Championship. Playoffs are an eight team single elimination with each step a best-of-five series. The total prize pool is ¥2,350,000. In 2014 Riot Games began providing an English language broadcast. The format is modeled after the League of Legends Champions Korea format in South Korea. In September 2015 it was announced that Riot Games was in negotiations with Tencent to take over operations of the league.

History

2013

Royal Club Huang Zu started off the year with their participation in the G-League 2012 Season 2, finished at 3-4th place after losing against Team WE 1-3. [1] They then attended GIGABYTE StarsWar League/Season 2 in March but got knocked out in the Group Stage. [1] In June, Royal Club Huang Zu finished 5th in 2013 LPL Spring, went 15-13 in the Group Stage and did not qualify for playoffs. [1] One day after, they participated in the NVIDIA Game Festival 2013 and placed second after losing against Team WE in the finals. In July, Royal HZ took part in StarsWar 8 tournament. They got knocked out in the semifinals, lost 0-2 to iG. At the end of July, they once again lost 0-2 to iG in the semifinals of IEM Season VIII - Shanghai and finished 3-4th. In September, Royal HZ qualified for the Season 3 China Regional Finals after finishing 2nd in the 2013 LPL Summer/Regular Season with a 13-8 record over the season. In the Season 3 China Regional Finals, Royal HZ made an amazing comeback, went from the Loser's bracket to defeat OMG in the Grand Finals, claimed the first place and not only a spot in the Season 3 World Championship but the huge advantage of being seeded directly into the quarterfinals past the group stages.

Invictus Gaming multi-game eSports organization

Invictus Gaming (IG) is a multi-game esports organization founded in 2011 in China. They are primarily known for their Dota 2, League of Legends, and StarCraft II teams. IG's Dota team won The International 2012, and its League of Legends team won the 2018 League of Legends World Championship.

At the S3 Championship, Royal Club would be a dark horse team in the quarterfinals as they were not as well known outside the Asian scene, and Worlds was their first major tournament in North America. [1] Their first match would be against a team they were exceptionally familiar with from the Chinese league, OMG. [1] In the first match of bracket stage, the two Chinese teams would re-enact the Chinese Regional Finals to see who would advance and who would be eliminated from the tournament. OMG had been seen as one of the strongest teams in the Group stage, losing only once to the eventual champions SK Telecom T1, but Royal Club were well prepared going into the match. They defeated their Chinese compatriots in a 2-0 victory, advancing to face Europe's top seed, Fnatic. The series would lead to a back and forth heavy hitting battle between the regions, with Royal able to win the final game, 3-1. Huang Zu found themselves in the ultimate spotlight in the grand finals against favored Korean team SK Telecom T1. The anticipated match led to Royal Club being overwhelmed by SK T1, losing 0-3, but taking home a very respectable 2nd place.

OMG (esports)

OMG is a Chinese esports organization. Their League of Legends division was formed in May 2012 and competes in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL). The team appeared in the League of Legends World Championship in 2013 and 2014.

SK Telecom T1 e-Sports-works team of the South Korean telecommunications company SK Telecom

SK Telecom T1 is an e-sports team owned by the South Korean telecommunications company SK Telecom. At the end of 2003, SK Telecom took the StarCraft Team Orion by Lim Yo-hwan under contract and set up the team under the conglomerate's banner. Lim Yo-hwan took the role of team captain. SKT's League of Legends team has won the 2013, 2015, and 2016 editions of the League of Legends World Championships.

Fnatic European esports organisation based in the United Kingdom

Fnatic is a professional esports organization headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Founded 23 July 2004, the team has players from around the world, across a variety of games, such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, and League of Legends.

After the S3 Championship, Tabe and Wh1t3zZ retired while Lucky became a sub. Uzi then became team captain and briefly tried out other positions such as jungle and mid. In order to prepare for the 2014 LPL Spring, Royal Club significantly changed most of their roster, with many new faces joining the team, including the former LMQ Tian Ci top laner Yao and support Bao.

2014

On May 18, 2014 the Owner of Royal Club announced he was stepping down as CEO of the team and giving ownership over to Li Yande (eNO), where the team would be re-branded as Star Horn and take Royal Club's place for the LPL Summer Season. [2]

The roster at the time consisted of Yao, Kmi, Lucky, Nct, Uzi, Bao, LeY, Rui, YS. May 28, LaoPi, corn, and Cola join. [3] May 31, inSec and Zero join. [4] December 6, ackerman joins. [5] December 11, Uzi leaves. [6]

Royal Club beat LPL team OMG 3-2 in the semi-finals. [7] Royal Club reached the finals of the 2014 League of Legends World Championship and lost to Samsung Galaxy White 3-1. [8]

2014 <i>League of Legends</i> World Championship

The 2014 League of Legends World Championship was the world championship that was held from September 18, 2014 to October 19, 2014 for the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game League of Legends. It was the fourth iteration of the League of Legends World Championship. Matches were held in Taipei, Singapore, and Seoul, with grand finals being at the Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. The 16 teams qualified by either winning a major professional league or a regional qualifying tournament. There was a 16 team round-robin group stage followed by an 8 team single elimination bracket. The games were officially streamed on twitch.tv and Azubu in several languages and the finals were aired online on ESPN3.

Star Horn finished 10th in the 2015 LPL Spring Round Robin, eliminating them from the playoffs.

Edward Gaming is a professional esports organization in China. Its League of Legends team competes in the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) and plays games in the Shanghai Electric Industrial Park in Shanghai. The team was formed by members of World Elite in spring 2014 after they left the team. EDG won the 2015 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational.

The 2015 Mid-Season Invitational was a League of Legends tournament organized by publisher Riot Games that was held from May 7–10, 2015 at the Florida State University Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee, Florida. The first place teams from the spring seasons of the NA League of Legends Championship Series, EU League of Legends Championship Series, League of Legends Pro League, League of Legends Champions Korea, and the League of Legends Masters Series. It was won by EDward Gaming from the LPL.

LMQ (esports)

LMQ was a League of Legends team. It was founded in China in 2013 as a sister team to Royal Club and competed in the League of Legends Pro League. On December 15, 2013 the team moved to North America to compete in the North American League of Legends Championship Series. The team later changed its name to Team Impulse.

Royal Never Give Up Chinese esports club

Royal Never Give Up is a Chinese esports club whose League of Legends team competes in the League of Legends Pro League. It was the winner of the 2016 and 2018 LPL Spring Split as well as the champion of 2018 Mid-Season Invitational. It is the sister team of Star Horn Royal Club. RNG also takes part in the operation of Chengdu Hunters, an Overwatch esports team competing in the Overwatch League.

The Mid-Season Invitational is an annual League of Legends tournament hosted by publisher Riot Games since 2015. It is the second most important international League of Legends tournament aside from the World Championship.

Wei Zhen, better known by his in-game ID We1less, previously GODV and PAinEvil, is a Chinese League of Legends profession player for the team LGD Gaming. J Team Taiwanese professional esports organization

J Team is a Taiwanese professional esports organization owned by JY Entertainment that has players competing in League of Legends and StarCraft II. Their League of Legends team participates in the League of Legends Masters Series (LMS), the highest level of competitive play in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. J Team was founded in April 2016 by Jay Chou after he purchased the League of Legends team Taipei Assassins, which had won the Season 2 World Championship in 2012.

Gao Di-Ping, better known by his in-game ID Gogoing, is a Chinese retired League of Legends profession player for the team Oh My God (OMG) of the League of Legends Pro League (LPL). He is a notable player of the "Top Lane" position, renowned for his Garen play. He has had high achievements both in the Chinese league as well as internationally. Gao, in his prime, has been considered by many analysts and other players in the League of Legends scene as one of the most mechanically skillful players and top top lane players, particularly in 2014.

2017 Mid-Season Invitational

The 2017 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) was a tournament for the MOBA video game League of Legends that started on April 28, 2017, and ended on May 21, 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This was the third annual Mid-Season Invitational hosted by Riot Games, and the first time MSI had been extended. Each of 13 premier League of Legends leagues had a team that won the Spring Split represent them; Europe, South Korea (LCK), and China (LPL) had their teams automatically admitted into the main event whereas the other 10 leagues competed among each other in a "Play-in Stage" with the top 3 teams advancing to join the main event. The six teams that competed in the main event were Team Solomid of NA LCS, Gigabyte Marines of GPL, Flash Wolves of LMS, G2 eSports of EU LCS, SK Telecom T1 of LCK, and Team WE of LPL.

Professional League of Legends competition involves professional gamers competing in the multiplayer online battle arena game, League of Legends, published by Riot Games in 2009. Professional tournaments began in 2011 with Season 1 Championship debuting at DreamHack in Sweden.

2018 Mid-Season Invitational

The 2018 Mid-Season Invitational was the fourth edition of the Mid-Season Invitational, a Riot Games-organised tournament for League of Legends, the multiplayer online battle arena video game. The tournament is the culmination of the 2018 spring split, the first part of 8th season of the game competitive scene.
