Star Search 2024 is the upcoming 12th installment of the long-running Chinese talent competition Star Search , hosted by Mediacorp, since 1988. The season will premiere on 20 October and conclude on 24 November.

Development

The season was announced on 21 June 2024 via various social media platforms [1] [2] and its Chinese news website 8world. [3] [4] To promote the season, three rounds of meet-and-greet sessions with various Mediacorp celebrities were held from 28 to 30 June at Orchard Central. Last season's runner-up Herman Keh, along with Chen Ning JJ Neo, Richie Koh, Sammi Tan, Tyler Ten and Zhai Siming, hosted the first day; Ben Yeo, Bonnie Loo, Daryl-Ann Jensen, Denise Camillia Tan, Fang Rong, Hazelle Teo, Jeremy Chan, Lim Pin Juen, Tan Ting Fong, Tay Ying and Yunis To in the second day; last season's top three Ye Jia Yun, Herman Keh and winner Zhang Zetong, along with Benjamin Tan, Hong Ling, Jensen Wang, Jernelle Oh, JJ Neo, Lim Pin Juen, Seow Sin Nee and Sheryl Ang, on the third. Auditions

The auditions were announced on 22 June 2024 and applications opened until 13 July 2024, applicable for aspirants with ages between 17 and 30, and go through either rounds of auditions for a place in the live shows. [6]

Marketing

BYD Auto replaces Audi as its official car this season, with the top three finalists winning a BYD car each (BYD Seal, Atto 3 and Dolphin for the winner, runner-up and third place finalists, respectively). Mitsubishi Electric is currently the only sponsor to return from the previous season. Other known sponsors for this season was Holistic Way.

The first season of the Singaporean reality talent show Project SuperStar began on 22 June 2005 on MediaCorp Channel U. The show is hosted by Quan Yi Fong and Jeff Wang. The overall winner and runner-up received a talent management contract with Play Music and Universal Music Singapore respectively, together with MediaCorp. Billy Koh, Lee Wei Song, Roy Loi, Anthony Png and Dawn Yip were employed as the judges for the season.

Carole Lin is a Singaporean actress. Lin was a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1995 to 2009. She won the Star Awards for Best Actress in 1997 for her role in The Price of Peace.

Star Awards 2019 is a television award ceremony which is held in Singapore. Star Awards 2019 marks the 25th anniversary, or Silver Jubilee, of the Star Awards since it was first awarded in 1994, hence subtitled Star Awards 25. Star Search 2019 is the 11th installment of the long-running Chinese talent competition Star Search, hosted by Mediacorp, since 1988. This was the first season of Star Search since 2010, returning after a nine-year hiatus. The grand prize includes a Mediacorp management contract and an Audi Q2 SUV.

Herman Keh is a Singaporean actor and host known for coming in second place in Star Search 2019 and for his roles in the television series I Want To Be A Towkay, Mind Jumper and Healing Heroes. He is also known for hosting the infotainment show Curious City.

The Heartland Hero is a Singaporean drama produced and telecast on Mediacorp Channel 8. It stars Elvin Ng, James Seah, Paige Chua, Bonnie Loo, Chew Chor Meng, Vivian Lai, Benjamin Tan, Bryan Wong, Ian Fang and Jernelle Oh.

Zhai Siming is a Singapore-based Chinese actor, model, and TikTok personality.

Tyler Ten is a Singaporean actor, model and martial arts instructor.

Kiki Lim Jiow Ting is a Singaporean actress and singer.

Tay Ying is a Singaporean actress.

Juin Teh is a Malaysian host and actress. Teh began her career as an events host in Malaysia and took part in various television and radio stations' auditions before entering the 11th season of Mediacorp's Star Search competition in 2019, where she emerged as one of the top 12 finalists.

I Not Stupid 3 is a 2024 Singaporean comedy film written and directed by Jack Neo, featuring child actors Zhou Yuchen, Camans Kong, Goh Wee-Ann and Joseph Ng Zhiyang. Battle of the Buskers is a singing reality competition organized by Mediacorp Channel 8. The season premiered on its Mediacorp streaming website meWATCH and its YouTube channel on 23 July 2023, and the finals were held on 5 November 2023. The competition were held across 11 locations islandwide beginning at Hougang Central Hub and ending with CQ @ Clarke Quay Fountain Square.

Jernelle Oh Yu Shi is a Singaporean actress and host who made her debut through the Star Search 2019 where she was one of the 12 finalists in the talent search competition. Oh is the first in her Star Search batch to have received a nomination for Star Awards for Best Actress for her role as Huang Mei Zhen in Cash On Delivery.
