The State Lawyers Corps (Spanish: Cuerpo de Abogados del Estado) [1] is a body of top civil servants in Spain, dependent on the Solicitor General of the State, itself organically integrated (currently) within the Ministry of Justice.

It was created in 1881. [2] It is formed by licentiate graduates (later graduates) in Law, who join the body after passing a competitive public examination, considered among the hardest to pass in Spain. [3] Experts in the ins and outs of the Public Administration, [2] and with a valued social network, the State Lawyers are also highly sought in the private sector. [3] [2]

1977 Atocha massacre Far-right massacre of five people in Madrid in 1977

The 1977 Atocha massacre was an attack by right-wing extremists in the center of Madrid on January 24, 1977, which saw the assassination of five labor activists from the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) and the workers' federation Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO). The act occurred within the wider context of far-right reaction to Spain's transition to constitutional democracy following the death of dictator Francisco Franco. Intended to provoke a violent left-wing response that would provide legitimacy for a subsequent right-wing counter coup d'état, the massacre had an immediate opposite effect; generating mass popular revulsion of the far-right and accelerating the legalization of the long-banned Communist Party.

José María Michavila

José María Michavila Núñez is a lawyer, entrepreneur, professor and former Spanish politician for the People's Party (PP). He is the founding partner of the law firm "MA ABOGADOS" and also of the wealth advisory company "MDF Family Partners". He has a degree in Contemporary History as well as a PhD in Law. He was an MP in the Spanish Parliament from 1993 to 2009 and a member of the Government of Spain during the eight years that José María Aznar was Prime Minister. He is the father of five children with Irene Vázquez Romero, who died on 22 November 2013.

Landelino Lavilla Spanish politician

Landelino Lavilla Alsina was a Spanish lawyer and politician who served as the Minister of Justice of Spain from 1976 to 1979. He also served as member of parliament and as senator. His most important role was as President of the Congress of Deputies during the coup d'état of 23-F in 1981. Jurist Eduardo García de Enterría called him the "principal architect of the transition to democracy".

César Emiliano Hernández Ochoa is a Mexican public official, lawyer and academic from Durango, Mexico. Hernández has a long trajectory inside the Mexican government, having worked in every Mexican federal administration since Ernesto Zedillo and received presidential appointments both from Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Enrique Peña Nieto. From December 1, 2018, until May 15, 2020, he served as National Commissioner at the Commission for Better Regulation. From February 5, 2014, until November 21, 2017, he served as Deputy Secretary of Energy for Electricity at Mexico's Department of Energy.

Francisca "Paquita" Sauquillo Pérez del Arco is a Spanish lawyer and politician known for her activism as a labor lawyer and in defense of democratic liberties during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. She has been a deputy of the Assembly of Madrid (1983–1994), a Senator (1983–1994) and a member of the European Parliament (1994–2004). Since 1985 she has been president of the NGO Movement for Peace, Disarmament, and Freedom (MPDL). Since May 2016, she has presided as Commissioner of Historical Memory of the City Council of Madrid.

Fernando Alberto Albán Salazar was a Venezuelan–Colombian activist, lawyer, politician, and prominent figure within the Justice First opposition party. Albán served as a councilman of the Libertador Municipality of Caracas from 2012 until his death in office in 2018. He died while he was detained in the headquarters of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN) in Plaza Venezuela, Caracas. Although government officials reported his death as a suicide, his friends, family, opposition political parties and Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States, argue that the councilor's death was murder.

Hermann Eduardo Escarrá Malave is a Venezuelan lawyer, university professor and political analyst. He is currently a member of the National Constituent Assembly since 2017.

Alejandro Finocchiaro Argentine politician (born 1967)

Alejandro Oscar Finocchiaro is an Argentine lawyer and politician who served as Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of Argentina. Previously he was general director of Culture and Education of the province of Buenos Aires and Secretary of Educational Policies and Teaching Career in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

Elvis Eduardo Hidrobo Amoroso is a Venezuelan politician and lawyer who currently serves as the Comptroller General of Venezuela as of 23 October 2018. He also holds the presidency of the Republican Moral Council, also known as the Moral Power. In August 2017, he was elected as first and second vice president of the 2017 Constituent National Assembly and served until October 2017. He also served as a deputy to the National Assembly for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

It succeeded the eighth Franco government and was the Government of Spain from 12 June to 31 December 1973, a total of 202 days, or 6 months and 19 days.

Edmundo Bal Spanish politician

Edmundo Bal Francés is a Spanish lawyer and politician. As a member of the State Lawyers Corps, he prosecuted La Liga footballers for tax avoidance, members of the governing People's Party for corruption, and proponents of the Catalan independence movement for sedition. A member of the Citizens party, he was elected to the Congress of Deputies in April 2019 for the Madrid constituency.
