Steinberg is a small village in Nedre Eiker municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. [1]
Nedre Eiker is a municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Eiker. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Mjøndalen. The old municipality of Eiker was divided into Nedre Eiker and Øvre Eiker (upper) on 1 July 1885.
Buskerud is a county in Norway, bordering Akershus, Oslo, Oppland, Sogn og Fjordane, Hordaland, Telemark and Vestfold. The county extends from the Oslofjord and Drammensfjorden in the southeast to Hardangervidda mountain range in the northwest. The county administration is located in Drammen. Together with Akershus and Østfold, Buskerud will form the new, larger county Viken, from 1 January 2020.

The village lies next to the municipal centre and town of Mjøndalen separated by E134 highway. The village is situated next to the Drammenselva river stretching west towards the village of Loesmoen in the neighbouring municipality of Øvre Eiker. A riverside park lies along the river. The community has both an elementary school and kindergarten, a number of businesses, an art gallery, and a sports club. High school and other students have to commute to other larger community centres in the surrounding municipalities of Nedre Eiker, Øvre Eiker or Drammen. Steinberg is principally a residential area with most of the active work force commutes by car or train to larger cities in the region such as Drammen and Oslo. [2]
Mjøndalen is the administrative centre of Nedre Eiker municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. It is situated south of the Drammenselva River opposite of Krokstadelva.
European highway E 134 is a European highway that crosses Norway starting near the city of Haugesund on the west coast, heading over Haukeli, passing the city of Drammen, and ending in the municipality of Frogn near the national capital of Oslo.

The community has championed the continued survival of Steinberg Station on the Sørlandet Line (Sørlandsbanen). The station was closed for three years from December 2012 but opened once again in September 2015, much in part thanks to the "activist group for the preservation of Steinberg Train Station. Steinberg train station has been renovated for ca 30 million NOK and meets now the standards for modern trains. The national railways have wished to eliminate the Steinberg stop but have thus far been unsuccessful. [3] [4]
Steinberg Station was located at the village of Steinberg in Nedre Eiker, Norway on the Sørlandet Line. The station was served by local trains between Kongsberg via Oslo to Eidsvoll operated by Norwegian State Railways. The station was opened in 1906 on what was then part of the Randsfjorden Line. It closed in December 2012.

Norges Statsbaner AS, trading as NSB AS and known in English as the Norwegian State Railways, is a government-owned railway company which operates most passenger train services in Norway. Owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, it is also engaged in real estate through Rom Eiendom, bus transport through Nettbuss, cargo trains through CargoNet and Swedish train transport through Tågkompaniet. NSB transported 52 million train passengers and 104 million bus passengers in 2009. The current company was established on 1 December 1996, when the former Norwegian State Railways (1883–1996) was split into the new NSB, the infrastructure company the Norwegian National Rail Administration and the Norwegian Railway Inspectorate. In 2002 the freight operations were split to the subsidiary CargoNet, and the maintenance department became Mantena.
Originally the rural community was called Stemberlandet, and later changed to Steinberg possibly due to a national railway standardization of placenames. Stemberlandet "the sorting land" referred to the fact that the logging industry sorted the timber in different stations along the Drammenselva river. Authorities concluded that Stemberlandet was not a real village name, and was thus changed to Steinberg.
