Stephen Adei (born 14 December 1948) is a Ghanaian economist,administrator and writer who is a former Director General and Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. [1] He is a former chairperson of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) under the Nana Akufo-Addo government. [2]
He was born in the village of Hwiremoase,in Adansi,Ashanti,Ghana to Kwaku Adei and Abena Pomaa (aka Bedito). Adei attended primary school in the village's Methodist Primary school and nearby United Middle School in Brofuyedru. [3]
He is the fourth child of his mother's seven surviving all male children. from basic school education,he obtained a four year Teacher's Certificate in 1964 from the Sefwi Wiawso Training College.
He studied privately to gain London University Ordinary and Advanced Level General Certificates in Education (High School equivalent qualifications) in three and a half years. Adei proceeded to the University of Ghana in October 1968 where he read economics,Sociology and Geography obtaining honours in all three first-year subjects before going on to do a BSc Honours programme in Economics. He then went to Strathclyde for his master's degree in Development Economics. He also holds a PhD in International Economics at the University of Sydney. [4]
Stephen Adei was the Director General and the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) between January,2000 and December 2008. Under his leadership,GIMPA was transformed from a small,under-resourced and subverted Institute in 1999 to the most successful organization under the Government of Ghana’s Public Sector reform. [5]
He was the Senior Economist of the Commonwealth Secretariat,London (1986-1989). [6] He also serves as the board chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority having been sworn in by the Finance Minister of Ghana;Ken Ofori-Atta. [7] [8]
On 18 August 2023,he resigned from the advisory board of the finance ministry. [9]
John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was a Ghanaian politician and legal scholar who served as President of Ghana from 2009 until his death in 2012. He was inaugurated on 7 January 2009,having defeated the governing party candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2008 Ghanaian presidential election. He was previously the Vice-President from 1997 to 2001 under President Jerry Rawlings,and he contested unsuccessfully in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is the first Ghanaian head of state to die in office.

He was the Minister for Health in the Ghana government from January 2012 until February 2013. He served as the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana in the 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th and 7th parliaments of the 4th republic of Ghana. He contested for the presidential candidate slot of the National Democratic Congress in 2019,but lost to former President John Dramani Mahama. On 7 January 2021,Bagbin was elected Speaker of 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
Mahamudu Bawumia is a Ghanaian politician and former central banker who serves as the 5th Vice President of Ghana in the 4th Ghanaian Republic. He assumed office on 7 January 2017 as Vice President of Ghana. Bawumia is the New Patriotic Party nominee for president in the 2024 general election.

Ernest Aryeetey,is an Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Statistical,Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana. Until 31st July 2024,he was the secretary-general of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA). He was also previously vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana (2010-2016). George Kwabena Effah Benneh was a Ghanaian geographer,academic and university administrator who served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana,Legon from 1992 to 1996. He was a professor and later an emeritus professor of Geography and Resource Development at the same university. Benneh was Minister of Lands,Natural Resources,Fuel and Power from 1979 to May 1981 and Minister of Finance from May 1981 to December 1981 under Hilla Limann during the Third Republic. Before this,Benneh has served as Commissioner for Lands,Natural Resources,Fuel and Power under the SMC II and AFRC regimes.
