Stephen McConaghy (born 15 January 1968) is a sailor from Sydney, Australia. who represented his country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Savannah, United States as crew member in the Soling. [1] With helmsman Matt Hayes and fellow crew member Steve Jarvin they took the 12th place. [2]
John Russell Welchli was an American rower. He was a member of the U.S. Olympic Rowing Team at the 1956 Summer Olympics, Melbourne, Australia. Welchli rowing out of the Detroit Boat Club won a silver medal at the 1956 Olympics in the four without coxswain event along with DBC teammates James McIntosh and identical twin brothers John McKinlay and Art McKinlay. In 1956 the Detroit Boat Club coached by Walter M. Hoover placed seven oarsman on the US Olympic Rowing Team winning 2 silver medals the other being in the double sculls event crewed by Pat Costello and James Gardiner. The seventh member of the 1956 team was alternate Walter Hoover Jr.The seven 1956 Detroit Boat Club Olympic oarsman are known as the "DBC Seven." Welchli also won a combined 32 Canadian and U.S. national gold medals during his distinguished career. Welchli was a Master Senior Sculler competing up until 2010 and is considered one of the all-time great American scullers.
Peter Thomas AntonieOAM is an Australian former rower. He is an Olympic & Commonwealth games gold medallist and world champion. He is regarded as one of Australia's greatest ever rowers figuring in senior representative squads consistently from 1977 to 1996 and representing Australia on eighteen occasions at three Olympics and fifteen World Rowing Championships. He competed at the highest levels as both a sculler and a sweep oarsman, in both lightweight and open divisions, across all boat classes. The Adelaide University Boat Club is a rowing club affiliated with the University of Adelaide. The club was founded in 1881, and in 1896 helped to form the Adelaide University Sports Association. The main clubrooms, donated by Robert Barr Smith in 1909, are located on the north bank of the River Torrens on War Memorial Drive, adjacent to the Adelaide University Sports Grounds. The shed has two boat bays, a gym and weights room and a small bar. The club also leases a secondary boatshed at the South Australian Rowing Association complex on Military Road at West Lakes, and also trains regularly at Port Adelaide's North Arm Creek and Murray Bridge. Members have included rowers of all levels, from total beginners to Olympic Gold Medallists. The club shares the nickname "The Blacks" with the Adelaide University Football Club.
