Stephen Namanya [1] is an Anglican bishop in Uganda: [2] he has been Bishop of North Ankole since 2015. [3]

Namanya was born on June 2, 1959 at Kabuyanda, Isingiro District and educated at Uganda Christian University. He was ordained a deacon in 1987, and a priest in 1988. He has served as a parish priest; an archdeacon; and as Chairperson of the House of Clergy for North Ankole Diocese. Namanya was consecrated on 2 August 2015 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rushere.

The Ankole Western University (AWU), is an Anglican institution of higher learning in Uganda. It is owned and administered by the Western Ankole Diocese of the Church of Uganda.

The Anglican ecclesiastical province of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi was formed in 1961 following the division of the diocese of Uganda the previous year. Prior to 1980, the province included Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Boga, in what was then the country of Zaire.
