Stereo Models were an English new wave group, formed in 1979 in Bristol, England. They are best known for the track "Move Fast-Stay Ahead", on the Bristol compilation album, Avon Calling , released by Heartbeat Records in 1979. Rick Joseph of NME writing at the time of the original release said, 'The joys of profligate living are eulogised in "Move Fast, Stay Ahead", a reckless, infectious punkabilly chorus from Stereo Models'. [1] The track was written by Russ Thomas, who provided vocals and played guitar, and was recorded at Horizon Studios, Coventry. The drummer was Mark Hatwood, formally of Coventry band Squad, which included Terry Hall in their line-up. [2] Later Paul Tyler was added on bass and Steve Libby on keyboards.

In 1980 Tyler left and Hatwood got disillusioned and joined Mud - later to write film music. [3] Thomas and Libby carried on under the name of Metropolis, [4] with Geoff Fulton [5] on bass and Simon Phillips on drums. In 1981 Libby left to join The Agents, and then Force Majeure. Later in the year the rest of the band split up. Tyler continues composing and recording music involving Steve Libby on some of his work.

In 2005 the original LP, Avon Calling , was re-released by Cherry Red as a double album.

In 2010, Heartbeat and Bristol Archive Records brought out a CD follow-up to the original album, calling it Avon Calling 2. Included on this CD release is the Stereo Models track "Middle Of Nowhere".

Vice Squad are an English punk rock band formed in 1979 in Bristol. The band was formed from two other local punk bands, The Contingent and TV Brakes. The songwriter and vocalist Beki Bondage was a founding member of the band. Although there was a period of time when the band had a different vocalist she reformed the band in 1997.

Disorder are an English street punk band that formed in the Bristol area of England in 1980, and has existed with varying line-ups to this day. Disorder are a band who aligned with politically charged punk bands.

Glaxo Babies

Glaxo Babies are a Bristol-based post-punk band, formed in late 1977. There were three distinct phases in the band's life and after initially breaking up in 1980, they reformed in 1985, only to finally break up again in 1990. The band reformed once again in 2015 for the Un-Peeled 2015 event with Steve Street on bass and Tony Wrafter's son Oscar on vocals.

Europeans were a new wave band formed in Bristol, England in 1977. The line-up was Jonathan Cole, Jon Klein, Steve Street and James Cole. According to Klein, ‘we were going to be called 'The Noses.'

The Agents (English band) Musical artist

The Agents were an English post-punk band formed in 1980 in Bristol, England. The band formed from the remnants of several bands that were playing the American Military bases circuit in Europe in the 1970s. The band were based in Mannheim, Germany and the lineup consisted of vocalist Swig, guitarist Dave Libby, bassist Larry Burr and drummer Nick Bahra. The band were known for an exciting live act and built up a big following in Europe. In 1981 they released "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy", a single printed in green vinyl with a gatefold sleeve. The album, release the same year on X Records, produced by Ingo Schantz.

Essential Bop were an English, Bristol-based post-punk/art band, formed in early 1978 by Dave Robinson, with an initial line-up of Steve Bush, Mike Fewings, Simon Tyler, Nick Tufnell (drums) and Seng-gye Tombs Curtis (‘visualist’). According to Steve Bush, they were originally going to be called Essence of Bop, but instead opted for Essential Bop.
