Stevan Crnobrnja (born 21 February 1984) is a Bosnian Serb male sitting volleyball player and a medalist at the Summer Paralympics. [1]

Crnobrnja started playing volleyball at the age of 15. He initially represented Serbia, with whom he took, among others, 7th place at the European Championship in 2017 and 5th place at the Continental Championship in 2019 (he was the captain of the team during the latter tournament). Then he started representing Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the colors of the new national team, he won the bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics (he scored, among others, 12 points in the match for the bronze medal against Brazil). [1] [2]

Greece hosted a Paralympic Games for the first time, and it was also the 12th Paralympic Games in history. A total of 3,806 athletes representing 136 National Paralympic Committees (NPC) participated, and 17 NPCs made their Paralympic debuts in Athens. The Games featured 519 events in 19 sports across 20 disciplines, including the Paralympic debut of football 5-a-side.

Sport in Serbia includes football, basketball, handball, tennis, volleyball, and water polo. Professional sports in Serbia are organized by sporting federations and leagues. Serbian professional sports includes multi-sport clubs, biggest and most successful of which are Crvena Zvezda, Partizan, Radnički and Beograd in Belgrade, Vojvodina in Novi Sad, Radnički in Kragujevac, Spartak in Subotica. Serbia had successes in basketball, winning the Olympic silver medal and Nikola Jokic winning 3 NBA MVPs, as well as the 2023 NBA Championship and Finals MVP, Novak Djokovic winning a record setting 24th Grand Slam, and in handball, volleyball and water polo as well.

Volleyball at the 2008 Summer Paralympics was held in the China Agricultural University Gymnasium from 7 September to 15 September. Two sitting volleyball team events were held, one for men and one for women.

World ParaVolley, formerly the World Organization Volleyball for Disabled (WOVD), is an international organization that is for people with physical disabilities. It is affiliated with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The World Organization Volleyball for Disabled was established in 1981 and was part of the International Sports Organization for Disabled (ISOD). In 1992 the WOVD became its own separate Organization in Barcelona, Spain. The WOVD Headquarters were also established in the Netherlands. The WOVD is responsible for managing and controlling the conduct of international volleyball competitions for men, women and youth. The WOVD also liaises with IPC (as an independent organisation) and with other organizations for people with or without disabilities. The organization adopted its present name World ParaVolley at its 2014 general assembly.

Bosnia is one of the dominant forces in sitting volleyball worldwide, alongside Iran. The team won a bronze medal, during ECVD European Championships in 1997 in Tallinn. It took nearly two decades later for the nation to win a medal outside the sport of sitting volleyball when Amel Tuka won bronze during 2015 World Championships in Athletics.
