Deborah Ann Stirling Gallacher [1] (born 30 November [2] 1970 [1] ) is an English actress. She is known for her roles as George Woodson in the BBC soap opera Doctors and Paula Martin in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street .

Career

Gallacher played George Woodson in the BBC soap opera Doctors from 2003 to 2009. [3] [4] In 2007, she won the award for Best On-Screen Partnership at The British Soap Awards alongside Seán Gleeson, who played her husband, Ronnie Woodson. [5] [6] She has worked with comedian Ricky Gervais, appearing in Gervais' stand-up show Animals and playing Jennifer Taylor-Clarke in both series of The Office . [7] Following this, she appeared in Little Britain in various different roles. [8] She then appeared in 3 episodes of EastEnders in 2017 and in an episode of the Tracy Beaker spin-off The Dumping Ground in October 2017. [9]

Gallacher joined the cast of Coronation Street in August 2018 as Paula Martin, a love interest for established character Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent). [10] In February 2020, it was announced that Gallacher had joined medical drama Casualty as police officer Ffion Morgan, the wife of established character Jan Jenning (Di Botcher). [11] Gallacher confirmed that she would not leave Coronation Street for the new role, but instead would appear in both shows simultaneously. [12] Gallacher made her Casualty debut on 18 July 2020. [13] For her role as Ffion, Gallacher stated that she wanted to appear different to her Coronation Street character, so she wears a wig due to having an allergy to hair dye. [14]

Personal life

Gallacher has a son, Ulysses, born in January 2004. [15] On 20 June 2009, she married her former Doctors co-star, and on-screen husband, Seán Gleeson. [16]

Dr George Woodson is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera Doctors, portrayed by Stirling Gallacher. She first appeared during the episode broadcast on 7 January 2003, and departed on 27 March 2009. Shortly after her introduction to the soap, husband Ronnie Woodson followed, and together, the pair have a daughter, Bracken. After six years on Doctors, Gallacher announced her departure from the series and George left alongside Ronnie and Bracken as part of a storyline that sees the family move to China.

The fourth series of the British medical soap opera Doctors originally aired between 2 September 2002 and 13 June 2003. It consisted of 154 episodes. An increase in episode output saw an increase in the core cast, with six regulars cast for the series: Laurence Penry-Jones, Ela Kay, Stirling Gallacher, Diane Keen, Seán Gleeson and Ben Jones. Penry-Jones and Kay departed their roles at the end of the series, as well as Tim Downie leaving midway. The series received an average of 2.5 million viewers.

The fifth series of the British medical soap opera Doctors originally aired between 1 September 2003 and 14 June 2004. It consisted of 182 episodes. The series saw Natalie J. Robb leave her role as Jude Carlyle after three years on the series. She was followed by original cast member Maggie Cronin, who departed from her role as Kate McGuire. It also saw the castings of two new receptionists: Akemnji Ndifornyen as Nathan Bailey), who also doubled as the estranged son of established Ben Kwarme, and Andrea Green as Sarah Finch. Finch then won the British Soap Award for Best Newcomer a year later for her role as Sarah.

The thirty-fourth series of the British medical drama television series Casualty began airing on BBC One in the United Kingdom on 17 August 2019, one week after the end of the previous series. The series consists of 43 episodes. Lucy Raffety continues her role as series producer, while Simon Harper continues his role as the show's executive producer; this is Raffety's final series as producer, and she was replaced by Loretta Preece. Production on the series was postponed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which also resulted in multiple transmission breaks. A single episode was also pulled due to comparisons between its content and the pandemic; the episode was broadcast as the final episode of the series at a later date. The theme of the series is reflecting how the National Health Service (NHS) is "under pressure", with elements focusing on "the hierarchy of pressure on the doctors". The series is also promoted through multiple trailers.

The thirty-fifth series of the British medical drama television series Casualty began airing on BBC One in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2021. The series consists of 30 episodes, which focus on the professional and personal lives of medical and ancillary staff at the emergency department (ED) of the fictional Holby City Hospital. Loretta Preece continues her role as series producer. Sixteen regular cast members reprised their roles from the previous series and actor Michael Stevenson returned to the serial in episode fourteen as Iain Dean, a paramedic.

Roberta Alexandra Kerr is an English actress. She is known for her various roles in British soap operas including Sally Haynes in Brookside, Wendy Crozier in Coronation Street and Jan Glover in Emmerdale, as well as portraying several characters in Doctors.
