Stockholm Jazz Festival is an annual music festival that was established in 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden, originally called the Stockholm Jazz and Blues Festival. A portion of the first festival was broadcast on Swedish television.
Claiming to be one of the oldest festivals in Sweden, the Stockholm Jazz Festival celebrated its 20th birthday in 2003, refusing to give up its main venue on Skeppsholmen since long having a status as the soul of the festival, the backdrop of the Stockholm harbor regarded as the distinguishing mark of the festival.
The festival has hosted Swedish musicians such as Arne Domnérus, Monica Zetterlund, Nils Landgren, Peps Persson, and Lisa Ekdahl, in addition to Pepper Adams, Count Basie, B.B. King, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, and Miriam Makeba. [1]
For the festival of 2007, a national project called Jazzens år 2007 ("Year of Jazz 2007") was started. [2] [3] [4]
The festival is housed indoors since 2012 and in 2014 expanded to 10 full days with attendance exceeding 21,000. [5]
The festival emphasizes world music and improvisational music. In October 2016 acts from around the world included Kristin Amparo, Peter Asplund, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Tony Buck, Avishai Cohen, Fatoumata Diawara, Itamar Doari, Tia Fuller, Steve Gadd, Abdullah Ibrahim, Magnus Lindgren, Hailu Mergia, Roscoe Mitchell, Omri Moealso, Lina Nyberg, Cecilia Persson, Alfredo Rodriguez, and Archie Shepp. Venues ranged from small clubs to concert halls. Past venues have included Glenn Miller Café, Stockholm Concert Hall, Fasching, [6] Skeppsholmen, Scandic Anglais, Kungsträdgården, Moderna Museet.
Kent was a Swedish alternative rock band, formed in Eskilstuna in 1990. With members Joakim Berg, Martin Sköld, Sami Sirviö and Markus Mustonen, the band had numerous radio hits throughout Sweden and Scandinavia and consecutive number-one studio albums on the Sweden top list (Sverigetopplistan) beginning with the release of Verkligen (1996) and led by the single "Kräm ". With origins rooted in distorted rock, they found mainstream success through their alternative rock albums of the mid-1990s, 2000s and 2010s, the latter decades during which they adopted elements of synthpop. With eleven number-one albums, five number-one singles, 23 Swedish Grammy Awards, and over three million record sales, Kent is considered the most popular rock/pop group within Sweden and throughout Scandinavia. Vapen & ammunition (2002) topped the Swedish charts for eight weeks. Kent is often compared to bands like U2 and Coldplay.
Skeppsholmen is one of the islands of Stockholm. It is connected with Blasieholmen and Kastellholmen by bridges. It is accessible by foot from Kungsträdgården, past the Grand Hôtel and Nationalmuseum, by bus number 65, or by boat from Slussen, Djurgården or Nybroplan.
Jakob Hellman is a Swedish pop singer. His debut album, ...och stora havet, released in 1989, was his only release for 32 years. He released his second album, Äntligen borta, on 8 January 2021. He is still a well-known figure in Swedish music.

Moki Cherry was a Swedish interdisciplinary artist and designer who worked in textiles, fashion design, woodworks, painting, collage, ceramics and set design. Her practice traversed the worlds of art, music and theater with diverse influences such as Indian art and music, Tibetan Buddhism, fashion, traditional folk arts and dress, abstraction, cartoons and Pop art. From 1977 she split her time living between Tågarp, Sweden and Long Island City in New York, USA. Moki collaborated with her husband, the American jazz trumpeter, Don Cherry, throughout her lifetime – they performed in concerts as Organic Music, where her artworks were also displayed, and ran workshops for children. Her designs also appeared on Don's album covers and as costumes worn by him in concert.
