Stodacom Africa is an African corporate investigations, risk consultancy and geopolitical intelligence firm based in Kampala, Uganda working directly from more than 30 African countries. Stodacom Africa was established in 2006 as Stodacom Uganda Limited and started work in 2006. The company is known for investigating high-profile corruption and general investigations cases on the continent.

Africa is the world's second largest and second most-populous continent, being behind Asia in both categories. At about 30.3 million km2 including adjacent islands, it covers 6% of Earth's total surface area and 20% of its land area. With 1.2 billion people as of 2016, it accounts for about 16% of the world's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Isthmus of Suez and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The continent includes Madagascar and various archipelagos. It contains 54 fully recognised sovereign states (countries), nine territories and two de facto independent states with limited or no recognition. The majority of the continent and its countries are in the Northern Hemisphere, with a substantial portion and number of countries in the Southern Hemisphere.

Kampala is the capital and largest city of Uganda. The city is divided into five boroughs that oversee local planning: Kampala Central Division, Kawempe Division, Makindye Division, Nakawa Division, and Rubaga Division. Surrounding Kampala is the rapidly growing Wakiso District, whose population more than doubled between 2002 and 2014 and as of 2014 Wakiso was reported to stand at over 2 million.

History

Stodacom Africa was founded in 2006 by Musika Stodart while a student of Statistics at Makerere University Uganda. It started as a small corporate investigations firm, It was then operating in Kampala business area. During that time the company was only offering specific services in pre-employment screening and insurance claims investigations. Stodacom only worked on international clients from outside Uganda later in 2007, the company has since evolved to be the best research and investigations corporate firm on the African continent.

Musika Stodart businessperson

Musika Stodart is a businessman and entrepreneur in Uganda. He is the director of a company known as Stodacom, whose interests are in research and investigations on the African continent. His investments are mainly in the areas of risk management, insurance, forensics, outsourcing, real estate. He is reported to be one of the best experts in corporate investigations and research in Africa and have been recognized for his work in insurance and political risk analysis.

Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and third-oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. In 1963, it became the University of East Africa, offering courses leading to general degrees from the University of London. It became an independent national university in 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Makerere University. Political risk analysis in Africa

Stodacom PRAA services provided include design and delivery of political risk analysis and corruption prevention programs, undertaking transaction-related due diligence and agent screening, managing whistleblower hotlines and conducting investigations into allegations of impropriety.

A whistleblower is a person who exposes any kind of information or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical, or not correct within an organization that is either private or public. The information of alleged wrongdoing can be classified in many ways: violation of company policy/rules, law, regulation, or threat to public interest/national security, as well as fraud, and corruption. Those who become whistleblowers can choose to bring information or allegations to surface either internally or externally. Internally, a whistleblower can bring his/her accusations to the attention of other people within the accused organization such as an immediate supervisor. Externally, a whistleblower can bring allegations to light by contacting a third party outside of an accused organization such as the media, government, law enforcement, or those who are concerned. Whistleblowers, however, take the risk of facing stiff reprisal and retaliation from those who are accused or alleged of wrongdoing.

Due diligence services in Africa

Stodacom Africa's DDS involves planning, implementing, measuring, and monitoring integrity and compliance programmes; selecting and managing the integrity of suppliers; and selecting and ensuring compliance in sales channel compliance. [4]

Background checks in Africa

Stodacom Africa's Background Screening division provides screening services for areas such as employment, supplier selection, investment placement and institutional admissions. Stodacom's Background Screening division also includes the SADpoint unit, which specializes in identity theft protection and identity restoration services. [5]

Primary Source Verification

Stodacom Africa is the only African firm performing Primary Source Verification services in Africa, through its SADpoint subsidiary company, they conduct verification of almost any document from passport, National IDs, Professional Licences, certificates among many others.

Operations

Stodacom Africa is one of the largest independent research and investigations firm doing research and general investigations in Africa. The company has interests in over 26 African countries and focuses on four regions: East Africa, West Africa, South Africa and North Africa. The company has worked directly from four continents and other developing countries, known ones include Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt. In 2011 October Stodacom was known to be the best professional firm in core due diligence and political risk analysts in Africa, this made the company acquire big contracts with USA, China, United Kingdom and French-based fortune companies. January 2013 the company rolled out operations in all African countries with four regional offices coordinating its operation on the continent. [6]

Data storage allegations

It was widely published in UK and USA media that Stodacom Africa had at its disposal millions of personal data on many African nationals in Africa and in foreign countries [ citation needed ]. The company, by that time, was a monopoly in completing background checks on the continent, they came out to rubbish these allegations stating that " ...We do not keep personal information after the completion of task....". These allegations are still rumoured as no evidence has ever surfaced to ascertain the existence of such big data held by the company.

Management

Stodacom is managed by a Ugandan researcher and businessman Mr.Stodart Musika, the founder of the company who has been at the company helm for more than ten years now is believed to be an expert in geopolitical intelligence. The company is known for employing top experts in risk management, sociologists, physiologists, economists and legal persons in Africa. Stodacom is known to employ majorly former government officials in the Maghreb region as its data analysts centre in Tunis.
