Jon Weisberger of Country Standard Time said the songs had "too many solid melodies and arrangements betrayed by awkward, uninspired lyrics." [2] Jana Pendragon of Allmusic rated the album two stars out of five, writing “As for depth beyond the heartbreaking kind, Stockton's songwriting shows an interesting bent on "Geronimo." As for foundation, it sounds as if Stockton knows where country music comes from, as he exhibits on "My Life's an Open Book," a pleasant waltz; "Billy Saw the Light" is just as good. Sadly, there are just too many other guys out there doing the very same thing.” [1]

"Tempted" at #5 is the highest charting solo single of his career in the United States, although he would reach #2 in 1992 as a duet partner on Travis Tritt's "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'."
My Life was the twenty-fourth studio album of Country music artist Ronnie Milsap. It was released in 2006, marking his return to RCA Nashville, after a departure in 1991 following Back to the Grindstone. Two singles were released from the album including "Local Girls" and "You Don't Know My Love", the latter did not chart but the former reached No. 54 on country charts, Milsap's first activity on the chart since the release of "Time, Love and Money" from his 2000 compilation album 40 #1 Hits.
