The Associates were a Scottish post-punk and pop band, formed in Dundee in 1979 by singer Billy Mackenzie and guitarist Alan Rankine. The group first gained recognition after releasing an unauthorized cover of David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging" as their debut single in 1979, which landed them a contract with Fiction Records. They followed with their debut album The Affectionate Punch in 1980 and the singles collection Fourth Drawer Down in 1981, both to critical praise.

During Trijntje's pregnancy she decided not to tour and perform, but use the time at home in her own studio to record an album. The album peaked at #5 in the Dutch album chart and was certified Gold. Trijntje started her musical career singing for Candy Dulfer's third album Big Girl and on Trijntje's third album, Candy is featured playing the saxophone on three tracks.

"Walk Along" was written by 2013 Contest entrant Anouk who also first revealed that Oosterhuis had been selected to represent the Netherlands while being interviewed for the Dutch talkshow College Tour. Following confirmation from the Dutch broadcaster that Trijntje Oosterhuis had been selected to represent the Netherlands, the song "Walk Along" was revealed to public in December 2014. In the first of the Eurovision semi-finals, the Netherlands failed to qualify to the final, placing fourteenth out of the 16 participating countries with 33 points.
