History
Formed in 1974 by the encounter of the future members of the group in a school, they were the first Brazilian metal band in the world, and also the first to release an album. Their career began by playing songs by artists such as Rolling Stones, Nazareth, Sweet, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and other similar groups. The lineup of the time consisted of: ChamoneI Andre on drums, Leonardo Revenue on keyboards, Roosevelt Bala as the singer, Wilson Mota on guitar and Paulo Lima on bass. The first concert of the band, omitting various live performances for the anniversaries of the school, occurred in 1977.
In 1978 the band began to work on their first piece, under the influence of metal groups such as Judas Priest, Saxon and Iron Maiden, sung both in English and in Portuguese, but due to the desire of the fans who wanted to understand the lyrics, all lyrics were rewritten in Portuguese.
The first album was released in 1982, called simply Stress. The album mostly consisted of a quite heavy brand of speed metal, occasionally bordering on thrash metal, in some parts accompanied by classic metal and hard rock influences. The lyrical themes of the album also focused on social issues, as an example the song Stressencefalodrama strongly denounced the policy of censorship and torture adopted by the Brazilian government in those years. Many of the songs still had to undergo changes to the lyrics or the titles due to the censorship of the time. The release of the album followed with a major success for the band, for example the song O Oráculo do Judas was one of the most successful songs on radio stations in Rio de Janeiro, making the band gather many fans and putting it under the attention of Brazilian media.
Three years after the release of their album, Stress returned on the market with their second album, Flor Atômica, consolidating the status of cult band in the Brazil metal scene, a scene that would later be dominated by thrash metal groups like Mutilator, Atomic, Sepultura and Sarcofago.
After the release of the album the band continued to play concerts, but failed to produce another album and so they decided to disband in 1987.
In 1995 the band reunited and in 1996 they released a new album called Stress III, containing brand new and unreleased songs. The band never released any more material for 9 years, but in 2005 they released a demo with only one new song.
In 2019 the band released its fourth full length album, Devastação.
Speed metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots. It is described by AllMusic as "extremely fast, abrasive, and technically demanding" music.
Fistful of Metal is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Anthrax, released in January 1984 by Megaforce Records and Music for Nations internationally. The album includes a cover of Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". This is the band's only album to feature vocalist Neil Turbin and original bassist Dan Lilker, who were replaced by Matt Fallon and Frank Bello, respectively. Former original guitarist Greg Walls claims that Anthrax "ripped him off" as he claims he wrote the material on the album.
Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. They were a major force in the groove metal, thrash metal, and death metal genres during the late 1980s and early 1990s, with their later experiments drawing influence from alternative metal, world music, nu metal, hardcore punk and industrial metal. Sepultura is also considered part of the second wave of thrash metal acts from the late 1980s to early-to-mid-1990s.
Judas Priest are an English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1969. They have sold over 50 million albums and are frequently ranked as one of the greatest metal bands of all time. Judas Priest have also been referred to as one of the pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, and are cited as a formative influence on various metal subgenres, including speed metal, thrash metal, power metal, and the hard rock/glam metal scene of the 1980s. Despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band had struggled with poor record production and a lack of major commercial success until 1980, when their sixth studio album British Steel brought them notable mainstream attention.
Chaos A.D. is the fifth studio album by Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura, released in 1993 by Roadrunner Records. After the success of Arise, the band decided to expand the experimentation of that album and depart further from the band's earlier thrash metal sound. The album incorporates multiple genres such as groove metal and hardcore punk, and features the band's first fully acoustic song.
Derrick Leon Green is an American musician best known as the vocalist of Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura. He joined the band in 1997 after the departure of band founder Max Cavalera.
Discharge are an English hardcore punk band formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The band is known for influencing several sub-genres of extreme music and their songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in heavy metal and other genres. The musical sub-genre of D-beat is named after Discharge and the band's distinctive drumbeat.
Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1981. They have gone through many lineup changes, with bassist/vocalist Tom Angelripper the only constant member. The band is currently composed of Angelripper, guitarists Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik and Yorck Segatz, and drummer Toni Merkel. Sodom has been referred to as one of the "Big Four" of Teutonic thrash metal, along with Kreator, Destruction and Tankard. Sodom heavily influenced the German black metal scene, and is regarded as a pioneer of death metal. Mike McPadden wrote that the most Venom-blackened of German "Three Kings", Sodom further merged thrash and death metal into a "wicked and decadent sound."
Ratos de Porão is a Brazilian crossover thrash band from São Paulo. They were formed in 1981, toured South America, North America, Asia and Europe, and still continue to play today. Their core lineup of João Gordo on vocals and Jão on drums and later guitars has remained since virtually the band's beginning.
Stained Class is the fourth studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 10 February 1978 by Columbia Records. It is the first of three Judas Priest albums recorded with drummer Les Binks, as well as the first to feature the band's now well-known logo in the artwork. Musically, Stained Class is considered the album on which the band honed many of the elements of their hard-edged signature sound, dispensing with most of the progressive and blues rock overtones and softer ballads of previous efforts. The album features such notable tracks as "Exciter", considered an early precursor to speed metal and thrash metal, a cover version of "Better by You, Better than Me" by Spooky Tooth – which became the subject of an infamous civil suit in 1990 which alleged the song subliminally influenced two teenaged boys to make a suicide pact – and “Beyond the Realms of Death”, which is considered one of the band’s greatest songs by many fans and frequently included in the band’s live setlists.
Sad Wings of Destiny is the second studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 26 March 1976 by Gull Records. It is considered the album on which Judas Priest consolidated their sound and image, and songs from it such as "Victim of Changes" and "The Ripper" have since become live standards. It was the band's only album to feature drummer Alan Moore.
Sin After Sin is the third studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released on 8 April 1977 by Columbia Records, and on 22 April in the UK, by CBS Records. Produced by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, it was the band's major label debut, their first album for the label, and their only album to feature drummer Simon Phillips, a studio musician who replaced original drummer Alan Moore for the recording sessions.
Jugulator is the thirteenth studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest. It was released in Japan on 16 October 1997 and the rest of the world on 28 October 1997. It was their first studio album since Painkiller in 1990 and the first of two studio albums the band recorded without Rob Halford and with American lead vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens. Jugulator is the only Judas Priest album that has never been released on any major digital media website, due to German independent record label SPV falling under and going bankrupt around 2009.
James Leslie Binks is a Northern Irish heavy metal drummer. He was the drummer for Judas Priest from 1977 to 1979.
Korzus is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in São Paulo in 1983. They are one of the first bands of the Brazilian thrash metal scene, along with bands like Sarcófago and Sepultura. Their first release was issued in the seminal metal compilation called SP Metal on Baratos Afins label in 1985.

Brazilian thrash metal is a musical movement that originated in the 1980s. Though not as large or well known as the North American or European thrash metal movements, it bridged the gap of the mid-1980s and the death metal scene later in the decade and the first-wave of black metal. This genre is both raw and intense, drawing in global audiences and holding a legacy that inspires bands outside of the country. Brazilian thrash metal grew from a blend of thrash, progressive, and death metal influences around the world, expressing resistance, opposition, and rage. In a country experiencing political and social hardships, Brazilian metal became a way to express frustrations of young individuals longing for change in the system. The lack of resources led bands to self-release their music, rather than turning to a label. This style of thrash metal includes fast-paced rhythms and vocals that encapsulate the feelings of Brazil's people. Although some bands, like Sepultura and Nervosa have become mainstream, the scene remains an underground icon.
Chakal is a thrash metal band from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The band formed in 1985 and has to date released five albums through Cogumelo Records. Its debut record, Abominable Anno Domini, has been described as an "influential, genre-defining" example of Brazilian heavy metal.

In 2010, thirty-three years after its release, the song won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance after being rereleased as a live track on A Touch of Evil: Live.
Stress is the debut full-length album by the Brazilian heavy speed metal band Stress. It was released in 1982 and re-released on LP in 2002 and CD in 2005 by Dies Irae.
