Sufi Comics or Sufi Studios is a Bangalore based Indian comic book publisher. [1] [2] [3] In 2012 it was the first Indian publisher ever to participate in the Comic-Con International at San Diego. [4]

The authors of both comics are Mohammed Ali Vakil and Mohammed Arif Vakil. While the first book was written and illustrated by the brothers, the brothers teamed up with Rahil Mohsin, who illustrated the Wise Fool of Baghdad. The comics are short stories taken from Islamic history to illustrate the eternal spiritual truths in the teachings of Islam. [7] [8] They are working on 300 plus pages graphic novel on poems of Sufi poet Rumi. [9]

Svetlana Chmakova is a Russian-Canadian comic book artist. She is best known for Dramacon, an original English-language (OEL) manga spanning three volumes and published in North America by Tokyopop. Her other original work includes Nightschool and Awkward for Yen Press. She has been nominated for an Eisner Award twice. Previously, she created The Adventures of CG for CosmoGIRL! magazine and the webcomic Chasing Rainbows for Girlamatic.

Niko Henrichon is a Canadian comic book writer/artist. He is best known his work with writer Brian K. Vaughan in creating the graphic novel Pride of Baghdad. Henrichon's first major work was a graphic novel titled Barnum!, written by Howard Chaykin and David Tischman, but he also did work for Fables, New X-Men, Sandman, and Spider-Man. He regularly provides covers for Marvel Comics and DC Comics on series like Fantastic Four and X-Men.

Sadia Dehlvi was a Delhi-based activist, writer and a columnist with the daily newspaper, the Hindustan Times, and frequently published in Frontline and Urdu, Hindi and English newspapers and magazines. She was a devotee of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz of Ajmer and Nizamuddin Auliya of Delhi. She criticized radical interpretations of Islam and called for a pluralistic understanding of Islam. She produced and scripted documentaries and television programs, including Amma and Family (1995), starring Zohra Sehgal, a veteran stage actor.

<i>Devashard</i> 2008 comic series

DevaShard is a manhua series projected to run for a total of 25 graphic books, with each book being 52 pages long. The first book in the series is DevaShard: At First Light. It is the first publication from Fluid Comics. The story is inspired by the ancient Indian mythological text the Mahabharata and focuses around the life story of the character Karna.

Liquid Comics is an Indian comic book publishing company, founded in 2006 as Virgin Comics LLC, which produces stories for an international audience. The company was founded by Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin Group, author Deepak Chopra, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and entrepreneurs Sharad Devarajan, Suresh Seetharaman, and Gotham Chopra. In August 2008, the company restructured and relocated from New York to Los Angeles. On September 24, 2008, it was announced that Virgin Comics was renamed Liquid Comics after a management buyout.

Shamik Dasgupta is an Indian comic book writer. He has done work for Virgin Comics, specifically for Ramayan 3392 A.D. a series based on the ancient Hindu epic Ramayana and set in a distant future. He has also written a one shot horror graphic novel called Virulents.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Comic Con India</span> Series of comic conventions in India

Comic Con India (CCI) is a series of annual comic-based conventions held in India. The first edition was held in New Delhi in 2011 and over the years has expanded to other major cities in India such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Ahmadabad. There are annual comic cons now in all these cities. Cumulatively these five cities attract over 200,000 visitors with over 1200 exhibitors. Jatin Varma, the founder & managing director of Comic Con India, launched the first comic con in India in Delhi in 2011. Since 2014, Comic Con India has been conducted in collaboration with ReedPop, the organisers of the New York Comic Con and the MCM London Comic Con.

Abid Surti or Aabid Surti is an Indian painter, author, cartoonist, journalist, environmentalist, playwright and screenwriter. He was given a National Award by the government of India in 1993 for writing a series of short stories called the "Teesri Aankh".

<i>Beasts of Burden</i> Comic book series

Beasts of Burden is a comic book series created by writer Evan Dorkin and artists Jill Thompson and Benjamin Dewey, and published by American company Dark Horse Comics. The title centers on an eponymous team of intelligent animals that investigate different paranormal events that occur in their small neighborhood of Burden Hill. The initial group consists of five dogs and a cat. They are often seen consulting with "Wise Dogs", local shamanic elders of their community.

He is also a researcher, freelance writer and columnist on the heritage of Bangalore and presently the Project & Research Head of Discover Bengaluru, an organisation documenting the Bangalore city's heritage and history.

<i>Mumbai Confidential</i>

Mumbai Confidential is a hardboiled comic book series by Saurav Mohapatra and Vivek Shinde, published by Archaia. The story is set in the Indian city of Mumbai against the backdrop of the Mumbai Police Encounter killings, a series of alleged extrajudicial slayings carried out by an elite squad of policemen. The story contains a western crime noir narrative, and a setting and structure inspired by Bollywood movies.

Vimanika Comics is an Indian Comics Company which creates Comics & Graphic novel based on Indian mythology. The company also has its presence in United Kingdom as Vimanika Comics UK. The comics are available at all leading book stores in India.

Odayan is an Indian martial arts comic book series, created by Suhas Sundar and Deepak Sharma, and published by Level 10 Comics. Set against the backdrop of feudal Kerala, the series revolves around Odayan, a mysterious vigilante who slowly builds a criminal empire which is poised to destabilize the reign of the Zamorin.
