Sullia taluk

Sullia taluk is a taluk of the Dakshina Kannada district of the Indian state of Karnataka. The headquarters is the town of Sullia. In 2012, the government of Karnataka has planned to set up a rubber factory in Sullia taluk. [1]

The Amara Sulya Freedom Movement

The Amara Sulya Freedom Movement of 1837. or Kalyanappana Katakayi, Amara Sulya Raitha Horata, Amara Sulyada Dange. This was Mutiny against the British government organized by the people of Arebhashe and Tulunadu. This incident took place twenty years before the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. Its war of Independence with support of Arebhashe Speaking and Tulu Speaking local agrarian community. The people in today's Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka and Kumble, Kasaragod region in Kerala unprecedentedly supported the freedom Movement even 20 years before the First war of Independence. Amara Sulya Freedom Movement, the revolutionaries started the movement from Maduvegadde Sullia to Bavutagudde Mangaluru and brought down the Union Jack and hoisted a flag of Haleri Dynasty at Bavutagudde. For a period of 13 days, the Canara area relished the sweetness of Independence.
