It is part of the Sulphur Springs Independent School District located in central Hopkins County. In 2013, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. [2]

Alvis Forrest Gregg was an American professional football player and coach. A Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive tackle for 16 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), he was a part of six NFL championships, five of them with the Green Bay Packers before closing out his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys with a win in Super Bowl VI. Gregg was later the head coach of three NFL teams, as well as two Canadian Football League (CFL) teams. He was also a college football coach for the SMU Mustangs.

Damione Ramon Lewis is an American football coach and former player who is currently the defensive line coach for the University of Colorado. He played professionally as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). Lewis played college football for the Miami Hurricanes before being selected by the St. Louis Rams in the first round of the 2001 NFL draft. He also played in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and Houston Texans. After his playing career, he became a defensive assistant for the Seattle Seahawks.

Lewis Glen Carpenter was an American football player and coach. He played college football for the University of Arkansas and professionally for ten seasons in the National Football League (NFL) as a halfback and fullback with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers. He played on three NFL Championship teams, with Detroit in 1953 and with Green Bay in 1961 and 1962. After his playing career ended, Carpenter spent 31 years as an assistant coach in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings (1964–1966), Atlanta Falcons (1967–1968), Washington Redskins (1969), St. Louis Cardinals (1970–1972), Houston Oilers (1970–1974), Green Bay Packers (1975–1985), Detroit Lions (1987–1988), and Philadelphia Eagles (1990–1994). Carpenter also coached the Frankfurt Galaxy of the World League of American Football in 1996 and at Southwest Texas State University. He concluded his 47 years of playing and coaching football at the end of the 1996 season. Scientific tests on his brain diagnosed post-mortem that he had an advanced case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

The 1989 SMU Mustangs football team represented Southern Methodist University (SMU) as a member of the Southwest Conference (SWC) during the 1989 NCAA Division I-A football season. Led by first-year head coach Forrest Gregg, the Mustangs were returning to competition for the first time since 1986. An NCAA investigation into continued misconduct in the football program had resulted in the Mustangs receiving the "death penalty", which resulted in the 1987 season being cancelled and indirectly resulted in the team not having enough players to field a team in 1988. After playing most of the past several seasons at Texas Stadium, the Mustangs moved back to their old home of Ownby Stadium on campus, where they had not played since 1948.

Logan Colby Suggs is an American professional baseball coach and former pitcher. He is the bullpen coach for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball. Before playing professionally, Suggs attended the University of Arkansas, where he played college baseball for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
