Swindon is a large town in the ceremonial county of Wiltshire, South West England, between Bristol, 35 miles to the west, and Reading, the same distance to the east; the town is 71 miles (114 km) west of London. The population estimates for the UK, England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland: mid 2018 released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on 30 June 2018 estimated a population of 192,599 for Swindon. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 182,441. The Town Development Act 1952 led to a major increase in its population.
Oxegen was a music festival in Ireland, first held from 2004–2011 as a rock and pop festival and again in 2013 with dance and chart acts only. The event was regularly cited as Ireland's biggest music festival, and, by 2009, it was being cited as the greenest festival, being a 100% carbon neutral event in Ireland. It was previously called Witnness, which ran from 2000 and was sponsored by Guinness. The event is promoted by MCD and is sponsored by Heineken. Oxegen was originally a three-day festival, but from 2008 onwards, it was expanded to four days.
The Ashton Court Festival was an outdoor music festival held annually in mid-July on the grounds of Ashton Court, just outside Bristol, England. The festival was a weekend event which featured a variety of local bands and national headliners. Mainly aimed at local residents, the festival did not have overnight camping facilities and was financed by donations and benefit gigs.
Asian Kung-Fu Generation is a Japanese alternative rock band formed in Yokohama, Japan, in 1996. For its entire career, the band has consisted of vocalist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita, bassist Takahiro Yamada, and drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi. Starting out as a college band, Asian Kung-Fu Generation released a series of independent EPs featuring lyrics mostly sung in English. In 2002, they released their major-label EP debut Hōkai Amplifier, from that point singing their lyrics in Japanese. The band's musical style is influenced by seminal Western alternative rock acts as well as their own local Japanese indie-rock and punk scene. Their songs incorporate various aspects of the genres, most typically expressing fast tempos and prominent power chord guitar riffs in addition to rhythmic groove and emotional lyrics. Despite the indie nature of their music, the band has enjoyed worldwide commercial success in addition to critical acclaim. Asian Kung-Fu Generation has been cited as one of the best, most balanced modern rock bands to emerge from Japan in the 2000s.

T in the Park festival was a major Scottish music festival that was held annually from 1994 to 2016. It was named after its main sponsor, Tennents. The event was held at Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire until 1996. It then moved to the disused Balado airfield, Kinross-shire from 1997 to 2014. In 2015 the festival moved to Strathallan Castle, Strathallan, Perthshire. It was originally held over two days, and extended to three days from 2007. Promoted by DF Concerts, the event attracted up to 255,000 people and 70,000 campers.
Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band formed in Sheffield in 2002. The group consists of Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Nick O'Malley, and Matt Helders. Former band member Andy Nicholson left the band in 2006 shortly after their debut album was released.
Truck Festival is an annual independent music festival in Oxfordshire, England. It had a record amount of tickets sold in 2019 with 25 thousand people attending. This is for the whole weekend of campers, with an additional 10 thousand people on the independent days. It was started in 1998 by the Bennett family, who decided that mainstream festivals such as Glastonbury had become too commercial and predictable. It is held in July at Hill Farm in Steventon, which lies between Abingdon, Didcot and Wantage. The festival also gave birth to the Truck Records label in 1999.
The Latitude Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Henham Park, near Southwold, Suffolk, England. It was first held in July 2006 and has been held every year since. The festival includes a comprehensive bill of musicians, bands and artists across four stages - the Obelisk Arena, the BBC Sounds Arena, the Sunrise Arena and the Lake Stage. The festival also comprises elements of theatre, art, comedy, cabaret, poetry, politics, dance and literature.
Bilbao BBK Live is a rock and pop music festival that takes place annually in the city of Bilbao, Spain. Since its beginnings, the festival is held in its entirety on a special complex built specifically for the event on the slopes of mount Cobetas, located southwest from the city.
The Y Not Festival is an annual music festival held in Pikehall, Derbyshire, United Kingdom. It first took place in 2005, at a disused quarry site as a party for around 120 people organised by Ralph Broadbent who was planning a party in the garden of his parents' house but had to relocate when his parents didn't go away as planned. For the first year it went under the name of the Big Gin Festival. The main stage at the festival has retained this name as The Big Gin Stage. The following year it was renamed Y Not Festival with the public being invited and with attendances increasing year on year and eventually relocating to its current site at Pikehall in Derbyshire. As a small independent festival the event has won many awards and accolades such as best small festival in 2012 and the prize for best grass roots event and best toilets at the 2011 UK Festival Awards. In 2016 it was sold to Global Radio's festival division, Broadwick Live, along with Truck Festival and the rest of Broadbent's company portfolio. 2017 was the first year under the new management.
The Sonisphere Festival was a touring rock music festival which took place across Europe between the months of June and August. The festival is owned by John Jackson and Kilimanjaro Live. It is jointly promoted by K2 and Kilimanjaro Live. It has hosted heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Slayer, Judas Priest, Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold.
Stornoway were a British alternative indie folk band from the Cowley area of Oxford that released three albums from 2010 to 2015. The band consisted of singer, lyricist, and guitarist Brian Briggs; keyboard player Jon Ouin, bassist Oli Steadman and his brother Rob Steadman on drums. Their sound incorporated an ever-changing selection of stringed instruments and keyboards, supported by a typical pop backline of guitar, drums, and bass guitar.
Stereosonic was an annual electronic dance music festival held in Australia in November and early December. Stereosonic was held in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne, attracting attendances of up to 200,000 patrons nationally featuring the biggest electronic artists in the world.
JLS: The Theatre Tour is the debut headlining tour by English boy band JLS. The tour was launched in support of their debut studio album, JLS. The group performed throughout 2010 and early 2011, completing over 70 shows in the United Kingdom. The tour initially began in theatres however as the groups popularity grew, they performed at music festivals and arenas.
Red Sky Music Festival was a yearly music festival held at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2011 and 2012. The format for the festival included a headlining act closing each night with local and national acts performing on stages around the stadium during the day. The festival aimed to include many different genres of music. In its short history, Red Sky attracted headlining acts from classic rockers Journey and Def Leppard to country artists Jason Aldean and Brad Paisley to local favorite 311. The festival also served as a showcase for many local artists. MECA's inspiration for the format of the festival was Milwaukee's Summerfest.
Beatbullyz was a musical group from the Swindon area of England. The group was influenced by hip hop, ska, funk, soul, and big beat. The band was fronted by Daniel Dubose (Bozo) and Andrew Bullimore (Bully), both of whom created the music. The group was on the roster of Big Weekend Records, Bullimore's record label. The Beatbullyz street team was known as "The Minotaurs".
The Hangout Music Festival is an annual three-day music festival held at the public beaches of Gulf Shores directly accompanying its sister restaurant The Hangout (Restaurant). The festival is produced by Sean O'Connell in partnership with Goldenvoice. O'Connell, who has been involved in Hangout since its inception, became director of the festival in 2013. The event features many genres of music, including rock, indie, hip hop, and electronic dance music. The main stages are the Hangout Stage and the Surf Stage, as well as the Boom Boom Tent and more. The festival generally takes place on the third weekend in May. It is the first major music festival held on the beach in the city.
The Exploits Valley Salmon Festival is an annual festival held in Grand Falls-Windsor of the Exploits Valley, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that dates back to 1985. Events that are part of the festival include a dance in a stadium and a dinner of salmon. There is also a concert, although the concert in 2007 was so poorly attended that the organisers lost $200,000 on it. The organisers continued to lose money on the festival in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Businessman Boyd Cohen was the patron of the 2009 festival. The main festival concert in 2010 featured Matthew Hornell and the Diamond Minds. There was also a gospel concert that was attended by hundreds of people. Kellie Loder, Starfield, and Reverend Roy Martin performed at this concert. In 2012, The Daily Telegraph named the festival one of the top ten attractions for British foodies vacationing in Canada. In 2011, The town signed a deal with concert promoters RFO. As a result, the festival experienced a resurgence attracting larger crowds, The shows were headlined by popular groups such as Kiss, Smash Mouth and Down with Webster in 2011, Aerosmith & Flo Rida in 2012, The Eagles and The Tragically Hip in 2013, Maroon 5 in 2014 and John Fogerty, Tom Cochrane, America and The Fables in 2015.
