Superego (stylised as SUPEREGO) is a collective of producers, rappers singers and multi-instrumentalist artist out of Fremantle, Western Australia, previously known as POW! Negro from 2015 until 2018. [2] [3]

History

2015–2018: POW! Negro

POW! Negro formed late in 2015. [4] In August 2016, they won The Big Splash competition. [5] Their debut single "Hidle Ho" was released in November 2016 and launched in Mojos Bar in Fremantle. [6]

In January 2017, the band opened the Southbound Festival. POW! Negro released their debut EP Jasmine & Licorice in July of the same year.

The band supported Midnight Oil, Sampa The Great and Remi. [7]

2018–present: Superego & Nautilus

In July 2018, the band announced they had changed their name to Superego. [8] In a statement, the group said they "have grown more than [they] ever thought [they] could have" adding "the next steps for the group will be as SUPEREGO. As a culturally and musically diverse group, we wanted a name that was representative and reflective of everyone and feel this new identity encapsulates us as a whole." [3]

Superego released the EP Nautilus in March 2020.

In October 2012, the band described its 'vibe' as "squelchy, crispy, streamlined, hairy, indie". At the ARIA Music Awards of 2013 the group were nominated for Best Independent Release and Best Dance Release for the album; and Best Video for "Fred Astaire", which was directed by Andrew Nowrojee.

The Preatures are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, who formed in 2010. The band consisted of lead vocalist and keyboardist Isabella "Izzi" Manfredi, guitarist and vocalist Jack Moffitt, bassist Thomas Champion, and drummer Luke Davison. Vocalist and guitarist Gideon Bensen was a member of the band until 2016. In 2013, the Preatures won the Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition with their song "Is This How You Feel?" Psychedelic Porn Crumpets is an Australian psychedelic rock band formed in 2014 in Perth. The band are made up of English guitarist and singer Jack McEwan, guitarist Luke Parish, drummer Danny Caddy, bassist Wayan Biliondana, and keyboardist Chris Young, who began playing together in "an old horse barn in Leederville". Their genre and sound has been compared to that of other popular psychedelic rock bands in Australia, such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Tame Impala. They have self-described their sound as "an energetic mess of colour and tone". Concerning the reasoning behind the name of the band, its members have given little explanation. The band claims it was chosen at random because they thought it was amusing.

RVG are an Australian rock band from Melbourne, Victoria, formed in 2015. The band's current line-up is composed of Romy Vager on vocals and lead guitar, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Reuben Bloxham, bassist Isabele Wallace and drummer Marc Nolte. Original bassist Angus Bell was part of the band from its inception until 2019, being replaced briefly by Siahn Davis before Wallace joined as a permanent fixture later that year.

Grace Barbé is a Seychellois born, Australian singer-songwriter from Western Australia who also performs with the Afrobeat and psychedelic band of the same name which includes Jamie Searle and Hardy Perrine (drums). Barbé has released three studio albums and is the recipient of thirteen West Australian Music Industry Awards, including ten Best World Act Awards and three WAM Song of the Year awards. Barbé's third album Fanm: Woman was nominated for Best World Album at the 2020 ARIA Music Awards. Barbé sings in Creole, English, French and Malagasy and her music fuses the tropical rhythms and dances of the slaves with psychedelic rock, afrobeat, reggae and pop. Since 2022, she is the current bassist of jazz/funk band The Cat Empire.

Carla Geneve is an Australian singer-songwriter from Albany, Western Australia.

Timothy Nelson is an Australian singer-songwriter from Domus de Maria. Nelson has performed under the name Timothy Nelson & The Infidels.

Sly Withers are an Australian alternative rock band from Perth, Western Australia. The band consists of vocalists/guitarists Jono Mata and Sam Blitvich, drummer Fraser Cringle and bassist Shea Moriarty. Joel Neubecker served as the band's drummer from their formation until his departure in December 2023. The original band members formed the band while still in high school. Their second studio album, Gardens, debuted and peaked at number 10 on the ARIA Chart on 21 June 2021. A single from the album, "Clarkson", placed in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2021 at number 69.

The Weeping Willows are an Australian country music duo, formed in 2012 consisting of Andrew Wrigglesworth and Laura Coates. They have released three studio albums, The Weeping Willows (2012), Before Darkness Comes A-Callin (2016) and You Reap What You Sow (2022).
