Supreme Court of Ingushetia

The Supreme Court of Ingushetia is the highest legal tribunal of the Russian subject of Ingushetia, which lies to the west of Chechnya.

The Court has undergone a tragic period in the 2000s, with Deputy Chief Justice Khasan Yandiyev, being assassinated on April 13, 2008, [1] and successor Aza Gazgireeva being assassinated on June 10, 2009. [1]

Ali Taziev Russian rebel

Ali Musaevich Taziev, also known as Akhmed Yevloev, Magomet Yevloyev, and Emir Magas, is the former leader of both the Ingushetia-based Ingush Jamaat as well as the military wing of the Caucasus Emirate. On 30 September 2006, Taziev was appointed to the post of commander of the Caucasian Front by the orders of Dokka Umarov. In July 2007, one year after Shamil Basayev’s death, Taziev became his official successor as the most high-ranking military commander in the rebel forces. He is believed to be personally responsible for the death of several local high-ranking security officials.

Khasan Iragiyevich Yandiyev was a Russian judge who served as the deputy head of the Supreme Court of Ingushetia. He presided over the trials of a number of corrupt government officials and Islamic fundamentalists and rebels in Ingushetia, one of Russia's poorest and most troubled provinces.

Magomed Yevloyev Russian journalist

Magomed Yakhyаvich Yevloyev was an Ingush journalist, lawyer, and businessman, and the owner of the news website Ingushetiya.ru, known for being highly critical of Murat Zyazikov, the President of Ingushetia, a federal subject of Russia locating in the North Caucasus region. Magomed Yevloyev is not to be confused with the Ingush rebel leader Akhmed Yevloyev, who is also known as Magomed, or with the 20-year-old also named Magomed Yevloyev who is suspected of being a suicide bomber in the Domodedovo International Airport bombing.

Yunus-bek Yevkurov President of Ingushetia

Yunus-Bek Bamatgireyevich Yevkurov is an Ingush politician. He was the head of the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia, appointed by President Dmitry Medvedev, from 31 October 2008 to 24 June 2019. The following day, the People's Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia, the republic's regional parliament, voted in favor of Yevkurov's appointment, making him the third Head of Ingushetia. He is a career soldier, paratrooper, and Hero of the Russian Federation who was involved in numerous conflicts where Russia played a key role, including Kosovo (1999) and Chechnya. On 22 June 2009, Yevkurov was seriously injured following a car-bomb attack on his motorcade in the city of Nazran. On 23 October 2011, Yevkurov was again a target of an attack whilst on a national holiday.

Head of the Republic of Ingushetia


The Head of the Republic of Ingushetia, formerly President of the Republic of Ingushetia, is the highest office within the Government of Ingushetia, Russia. The Head is elected by Parliament of Ingushetia. Term of service is five years.

War in Ingushetia

The War in Ingushetia began in 2007 as an escalation of an insurgency in Ingushetia connected to the separatist conflict in Chechnya. The conflict has been described as a civil war by local human rights activists and opposition politicians; others have referred to it as an uprising. By mid-2009 Ingushetia had surpassed Chechnya as the most violent of the North Caucasus republics. However, by 2015 the insurgency in the Republic had greatly weakened, and the casualty toll declined substantially in the intervening years.

Murat Gasaev, an ethnic Chechen, was a refugee in Spain from the Russia's Republic of Ingushetia. In December 2008, he was extradited to Russia despite protests by human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. It was feared that Gasaev might be at risk of torture and ill-treatment, as well as the denial of a fair trial due to the potential use of evidence extracted under torture in Russia.

Bashir Magometovich Aushev was a Russian-Ingush politician, who served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia from 2002 until 2008.

Aza Adlopovna Gazgireyeva, also known as Aza Gazgireeva, was an Ingush jurist who served as the Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ingushetia. She was assassinated in Nazran on 10 June 2009.

Magomed Gadaborshev was a Russian-Ingushetian colonel who headed Ingushetia's Forensics and Investigations Center.

Rashid Yakhyayevich Gaysanov, last name also spelled Gaisanov, is a Russian politician in the southern Republic of Ingushetia. He has served as the Prime Minister of Ingushetia under Ingush President Yunus-bek Yevkurov. He was further appointed the acting President of Ingushetia following an assassination attempt against Yevkurov in June 2009.

2009 Nazran bombing

The 2009 Nazran bombing occurred on 17 August 2009, in Nazran, the largest city of the Republic of Ingushetia in the Russian federation. A suicide car bomber attacked police headquarters, and at least 25 people were killed and 164 injured. It was the most serious terrorist attack in Ingushetia in the early 21st century, where there had been social and political unrest related to independence movements. The militant Islamist Caucasus Emirate claimed responsibility for the attack.

Arthur Getagazhev, also known as Emir Abdullah or Ubaydullakh, was an Islamist militant leader in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.
