Supriyo Sen is an independent filmmaker from India. [1] He produced and directed the film Tangra Blues (2021). [2]

He directed the documentary Wagah which won the Berlin Today award at the Berlin Film Festival, The Nest which won the Best Environment / Conservation / Preservation in 48th National Film awards, Way Back Home which won the Best Film on Social Issues in 51st National Film Award, Hope Dies Last in War which won the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film [3] in 55th National Film Awards and Swimming Through The Darkness which won the Best Exploration / Adventure Film (including sports) in 66th National Film awards.

Works

His short documentary Wagah was shown at more than 200 film festivals and was regarded as the third most popular short film in the world in 2009 by German Short Film Magazine. [4] It also won the Berlin Today Award at the Berlin Film Festival. [5] After watching the movie eminent German filmmaker Wim Wenders commented that "Wagah is a manifesto against walls that divides people." [6]

His two hour long feature documentary on the Partition of India, Way Back Home is the first Indian documentary that was commercially released. [7]

Sen is a Berlinale Talent (international young filmmakers program by Berlin Film Festival). [8] He has served as juror at various film festivals, including the Busan International Film Festival, [9] Taiwan International Documentary Festival, DMZ Documentary Festival (Korea), Eagle Award (Indonesia), Kolkata International Film Festival, Dhaka International Short and Documentary Festival, SiGNS (Kerala) and Indian National Award selection.[ citation needed ]

Alongside directing, he also produced the TV/web series Kaali and Feluda. [10]

He has received grants from Sundance Documentary Fund, Jan Vrijman Fund (IDFA) and Asian Cinema Fund (Busan International Film Festival), DMZ Docs Fund several times and worked with NHK, DW TV, Planet, Goethe Institute, Films Division, PSBT and German, French American and Japanese producers. [11]

Sen has won more than 40 international awards for his films which include Berlin Today Award at Berlin Film Festival, [5] Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary Film Festival, [21] Grand Prix at Bilbao International Film Festival, [22] BBC Award at Commonwealth Film Festival, [23] Golden Lola (German short film award), [24] Black Pearl Award at Abu Dhabi Film Festival, [25] National Geographic Award at Flickerfest, [26] Golden Conch at Mumbai International Film Festival, [27] as well as Jury and Audience Awards at various festivals including Krakow, Tampere, Hamburg, Uppsala, Munster, Huesca, Winterthur, Damascus, Zagreb, IFFI (Goa), Rio-de-Janeiro, Parnu, Faito, Saguenay. [22]

Retrospective

A retrospective of his films was organized by IDSFFK and SiGNS (Kerala), Persistence and Resistance (New Delhi), International Documentary Festival (Chennai). [28] [29]

Osian's-Cinefan was one of Asia's leading film festivals devoted to Asian and Arab cinema, and was part of Osian's Film House Division. The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary in July 2008. After a two-year break, the 12th staging of the festival took place in July 2012. It has been discontinued since.

<i>Chauranga</i> 2014 Indian film

Chauranga is a 2016 Hindi film. It is the debut feature film of Indian writer-director Bikas Ranjan Mishra, produced by Onir and Sanjay Suri. The film was developed at the Screenwriters' Lab organized by National Film Development Corporation of India in collaboration with Locarno Film Festival and the ScriptStation of Berlinale Talent Campus, a part of Berlin International Film Festival. The Film won Golden Gateway of India Award for Best Film at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival.

Berlinale Talents, formerly Berlinale Talent Campus, is the talent development programme of the Berlin International Film Festival. An annual summit and networking platform for 200 outstanding creatives from the fields of film and drama series, the events take place in February at the three venues of HAU Hebbel am Ufer Theatre in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Berlinale Talents is organized and directed by Florian Weghorn and Nikola Joetze as project manager.

The 44th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival took place from 3 to 11 July 2009. The Crystal Globe was won by Angel at Sea, a Belgian-Canadian drama film directed by Frédéric Dumont. The second prize, the Special Jury Prize was won by Twenty, an Iranian drama film directed by Abdolreza Kahani.

Shiladitya Bora is an Indian film producer, director, marketer and distributor. He is the founder of Platoon One Films, a Mumbai-based film production studio. Bora was born and brought up in Assam and completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Ahmedabad. He started his film career by spearheading the indie release banner PVR Pictures' Directors' Rare, a limited release arm of India's biggest film exhibitor, PVR Cinemas group. Under this banner, he successfully released more than 85 independent films. In 2015, Bora was recognised for his work in marketing and distribution and was selected as one of the Berlinale Talents of the year. As the first CEO of Drishyam Films, Bora served as an Associate Producer on critically acclaimed films like Masaan (2015) and Newton (2017). He helped develop Newton from a one-line pitch to a story and greenlit the film to production. Newton went on to be selected as India's official entry for the 90th Academy Awards. In 2017, Bora founded Platoon One Films, a Mumbai based production studio with his wife and costume designer Shilpi Agarwal. Platoon One Films' maiden Hindi production Yours Truly, directed by Sanjoy Nag, starring Soni Razdan, Pankaj Tripathi and Aahana Kumra, premiered at the Busan International Film Festival 2018 and travelled to many festivals worldwide. Platoon One Films then went on to produce the National Award-Winning Marathi film Picasso, directed by Abhijeet Warang and starring Prasad Oak. He is also the producer for 2023 Indian Marathi-language thriller drama, Ghaath which was nominated to compete for the Panorama Audience Award and GWFF Best First Feature Award at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival.

Dipankar Sengupta Dipon is a Bangladeshi film director and screenwriter who works in Dhallywood. His first feature film was cop thriller Dhaka Attack (2017), which won four National Film Award in 2017 including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Sound, and Best Make-up. His film Operation Sundarbans got 3 national film awards in 2022 in Comedy, Best Make-up Man category and Male Singer category. Since 1998, he made one feature film, One web content, 30 TV movies and telefilms, 25 TV serials, 40 short TV video fictions, 48 live-action films for sesame street Bangladesh, 2 short films, and 12 documentaries.

<i>Loktak Lairembee</i> (film) 2016 Indian film

Loktak Lairembee, also known as Lady of the Lake, is a 2016 Indian Meitei language film directed and produced by Haobam Paban Kumar. It stars Ningthoujam Sanatomba and Sagolsem Thambalsang in the lead roles. The film had participated in many international film festivals across the globe and won several awards. The film won the National Film Award for Best Film on Environment / Conservation / Preservation at the 64th National Film Awards.

Hope Dies Last in War is a 2007 documentary directed and produced by Supriyo Sen. The film received the Best Documentary Award at the 55th National Film Awards and was included in the India Panorama at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The documentary was filmed between 2004 and 2007.

Way Back Home is a 2003 documentary film directed by Supriyo Sen and produced by his wife, Rajasri Mukhopadhyay. The film received a National Film Award from the Government of India, the Sundance Documentary Grant and the Asian Network of Documentary Award from the Pusan International Film Festival.
