Suryadhar Lake, is an artificial lake developed by Government of Uttarakhand, situated in Doiwala, in Uttarakhand. [1]

Overview

The lake has a holding capacity of 77 thousand cubic meters of water. The length of this lake is 550 meters, the width is 28 meters, and the depth is 10 meters. 18 villages rely on irrigation, and 19 villages receive drinking water from this lake. [2] [3]

History

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat laid the foundation stone on 25 December 2017. [4] The construction work of Suryadhar Lake was completed in November 2020. [5]

Dr. Harak Singh Rawat is a prominent political leader of the Uttarakhand state in India. He is a member of Indian National Congress after being expelled from the BJP in 2022. After joining Congress he negotiated an MLA ticket for his daughter in law, Anukriti Gusain, from Congress party and worked as a star campaigner in 2022 Uttarakhand General Elections. He became the youngest Minister of Uttar Pradesh State in the year 1991 and also won assembly election from Pauri. He has also won as an MLA from Rudraprayag, Lansdowne and Kotdwar and is one of the few leaders in the state with a wide appeal in a large area. He was the candidate of Indian National Congress from Garhwal in 2014 Indian general election. He was expelled from BJP and the Cabinet led by Pushkar Singh Dhami stating that he has indulged in anti-party activities and he is demanding ticket for his daughter in law (Anukriti) as well for the Uttarakhand Assembly Elections 2022. He later joined Congress in the presence of former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat.

Pakhanjur, also known as Pakhanjore, is a town, nagar panchayat, and the headquarters of the eponymous tehsil in the Kanker District of Chhattisgarh State in India. According to the 2011 Census of India, it is the second largest town in the district by population, only second to the district headquarters Kanker. On 15 February 2023, 25-year-old Nasir and 35 Year old Junaid were allegedly kidnapped by Bajrang Dal members who are known as Gau Rakshak on suspicion of cow smuggling in Nuh district of Haryana, India. They were brutally beaten, then put in a car and burnt alive. They died hand in hand on the spot. The incident came to light after photos of the lynching went viral on the social media. The police investigating the case later dropped murder charges against the accused Bajrang Dal members. Nasir and Junaid belonged to Ghatmika village of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.

The Urs-e-Makhdoom-e-Jahan or Urs of Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri is a Five-days long annual event organised commemorating the Sufi saint Sharfuddin Ahmed Yahya Maneri. She is the ninth female MLA in the assembly and the fifth MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party from the Bageshwar constituency. She is the wife of former MLA Chandan Ram Das.
