The City of Concord is the capital city of the U.S. state of New Hampshire and the seat of Merrimack County. As of the 2020 census the population was 43,976,making it the third largest city in New Hampshire behind Manchester and Nashua. Governor Benning Wentworth gave the city its current name in 1765 following a boundary dispute with the neighboring town of Bow;the name was meant to signify the new concord,or harmony,between the two towns.
John Hayden Lynch is an American attorney,businessman,and politician who served as the 80th governor of New Hampshire from 2005 to 2013. Lynch was first elected governor in 2004,defeating first-term Republican incumbent Craig Benson –the first time a first-term incumbent New Hampshire governor was defeated for re-election in 78 years. Interstate 89 (I-89) is an Interstate Highway in the New England region of the United States traveling from Bow,New Hampshire,to the Canadian border between Highgate Springs,Vermont,and Saint-Armand,Quebec. As with all odd-numbered primary Interstates,I-89 is signed as a north–south highway. However,it follows a primarily northwest-to-southeast path. The route forms a substantial part of the main connection between the cities of Montreal and Boston. In Quebec,the route continues as Route 133. The eventual completion of Autoroute 35 from Montreal will lead to a nonstop limited-access highway route between the two cities,following I-93 south from I-89's terminus. The largest cities directly served by I-89 are Concord,the state capital of New Hampshire;Montpelier,the state capital of Vermont;and Burlington,Vermont. I-89 is one of three main Interstate highways whose route is located entirely within New England,along with I-91 and I-93.

The town has three distinct communities:Hopkinton village,mainly a residential area in the center of the town;Contoocook,the town's business hub,located in the north;and West Hopkinton,within the more agricultural portion of the town. The town is home to the Hopkinton State Fair,adjacent to Contoocook village,and to the historic Contoocook Railroad Depot and the Contoocook Railroad Bridge,the oldest covered railroad bridge in the United States.

While the city of Boston covers 48.4 square miles (125 km2) and has 675,647 residents as of the 2020 census,the urbanization has extended well into surrounding areas and the CSA has a population of more than 8.4 million people,making it one of the most populous such regions in the U.S. The CSA is one of two in Massachusetts;the other is Greater Springfield. Greater Boston is the only CSA in New England that lies in three states,Massachusetts,New Hampshire,and Rhode Island. By some definitions,it extends into two additional states,Connecticut and Maine.
