    Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. Over 42 million people aged five or older speak Spanish at home. Spanish is also the most learned language other than English, with about 8 million students. Estimates count up to 57 million native speakers, heritage language speakers, and second-language speakers. There is an Academy of the Spanish Language located in the United States as well.

    Constance "Connie" Ledoux Book is an American academic who is President of Elon University, a private university in Elon, North Carolina. On October 9, 2017, the Elon Board of Trustees voted unanimously to elect Book as the ninth president of Elon. She became president on March 1, 2018. Prior to her appointment as President of Elon, Book served for two years as the first female Provost and Dean of Academic Affairs at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

    Maria Hernandez Ferrier is a former government official and the first president of Texas A&M University–San Antonio from 2010-2014. After working as an unlicensed nurse's assistant for minimum wage, Ferrier attended her first community college class at age 30, and she has received a doctorate from Texas A&M University and other degrees from Our Lady of the Lake University. In 1992 and 2002, she was named as the director of the Office of English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement and Academic Achievement for Limited English Proficient Students (OELA) separately under Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush; in this position, she served as the main advisor to the United States Secretary of Education for all matters related to students who speak limited-proficiency English.

    María Dolores Gonzales is a Mexican-American author and educator, and advocate for bilingual education in the US. She is a scholar in the realm of bilingual studies and linguistic history of the American Southwest. She taught at University of New Mexico for 12 years as a professor and was head of the Sabine Ulibarrí Spanish Heritage Program, and after retiring established the Spanish immersion program, Bilingual Strategies. Her programs advocate for the revitalization of New Mexican Spanish and dialectical awareness to connect Spanish speakers with their heritage, in order to reverse the damage of Spanish and US colonialism.

    Heather J. Shipley is an American environmental engineer and academic administrator serving as the interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio since 2023. She is the inaugural holder of the Hispanic Thriving Institution Endowed Chair for the Dean of University College.
