Sverre Anker Ousdal (born 18 July 1944) is a Norwegian actor born in Flekkefjord, Norway.
Ousdal made his debut in 1965 at Den Nationale Scene in Bergen. He worked at the Oslo Nye Teater between 1967 and 1970, and is since 1970 part of Norway's National Theatre ensemble. [1]
He has had major roles in several TV-series like Grenseland (1980), Blodsbånd (1998, for which he was awarded an Amanda), Familjen (Swedish) and Deadline Torp (2005). He also received the Amanda Award in 1990 for his part in the NRK play Kreditorer.[ citation needed ] In 1997 he was made a Knight First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St Olav for his acting work. Ousdal has had a number of major roles in Norwegian and Swedish films, including Karjolsteinen (1977), Orion's Belt (1985), [1] Falsk som vatten (1985), Etter Rubicon (1987), and Insomnia . He has also appeared in US films like The Island at the Top of the World (1974) and in several British productions, most notably the serial The Last Place on Earth (1985), where he starred as polar explorer Roald Amundsen.
He is the father of actor Mads Ousdal. [1]
Ousdal was diagnosed with cancer in 2008, and lost most of his eyesight due to a mistake made by surgeons during an operation to remove a tumour. He retired as an actor in November 2013, after playing the title role in a production of King Lear at the National Theatre in Oslo. [1]

The Amanda Award is an award given annually at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, Norway, to promote and improve Norwegian film. The award originated in 1985, and has since 2005 been exclusively a film award. Winners are awarded a trophy by the Norwegian sculptor Kristian Kvakland, and the name—and theme—of the sculpture comes from a legendary local woman from the 1920s. The award ceremony is marked every year by a major, nationally televised, event.

Insomnia is a 1997 Norwegian thriller film about a police detective investigating a murder in a town located above the Arctic Circle. The investigation goes horribly wrong when he mistakenly shoots his partner and subsequently attempts to cover up his bungle. The title of the film refers to his inability to sleep, the result of his guilt. Insomnia was the film debut of director Erik Skjoldbjærg. The screenplay was written by Nikolaj Frobenius and Skjoldbjærg, and the soundtrack by Geir Jenssen.
Orion's Belt is a 1985 Norwegian dual-language, political action thriller film, directed by Ola Solum and Tristan de Vere Cole. It is based on Jon Michelet's 1977 novel by the same name. The film follows three Svalbard-based shabby seamen, played by Helge Jordal, Sverre Anker Ousdal and Hans Ola Sørlie, who discover a Soviet bearing station. They are subsequently targets of Soviet liquidation and American interrogation in an attempt to quiet them and retain the political status quo. The Cold War topics were a critique of the Norwegian policy of allowing a Soviet presence on Svalbard.

Sverre Kjelsberg was a Norwegian singer, guitarist, bassist, composer, and lyricist. He was a member of the band The Pussycats from 1964. He and Mattis Hætta represented Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the entry Sámiid Ædnan, which was composed by Kjelsberg and Ragnar Olsen.

Ola Solum was a Norwegian film director. In 1983, he directed the documentary Kamera går! – Norsk filmproduksjon gjennom 75 år. One of Norway's greatest directors, he was particularly known for Orion's Belt, which premièred in 1985 and won four Amanda Awards, including best Norwegian film of the year. He also wrote scripts for a number of Norwegian films.
Etter Rubicon is a 1987 Norwegian thriller film directed by Leidulv Risan and starring Sverre Anker Ousdal and Toralv Maurstad. It was produced by Dag Alveberg and the film company Filmeffekt. The film is a political commentary about the Cold War and follows the aftermath of two children dying after a military exercise off the coast of Nordland and Troms.
