Rugby union Team sport, code of rugby football

Rugby union, widely known simply as rugby, is a full-contact team sport that originated in England in the first half of the 19th century. One of the two codes of rugby football, it is based on running with the ball in hand. In its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. The field has H-shaped goalposts at both ends.

Netherlands national rugby union team

The Netherlands national rugby union team represents Netherlands in men's international rugby union competitions. Nicknamed The Oranges (Oranje), is considered one of the stronger tier 3 teams in European rugby and currently compete in the second division of the Rugby Europe International Championships in the Rugby Europe Trophy, a competition which is just below the Rugby Europe Championship where the top 6 countries in Europe compete. They are yet to participate in any Rugby World Cup and often play in orange with blue shorts as well as in blue with orange shorts.

Russia national rugby union team

The Russia national rugby union team represents Russia in men's international rugby union international competitions, nicknamed the Bears, is administered by the Rugby Union of Russia (RUR). The RUR is considered the official successor union of the Soviet Union by World Rugby and the combined CIS team which played in the early 1990s. Since 1992, the team has played as Russia. Its first test match as Russia was against the Barbarians in Moscow in June 1992 and the country's first test against an official Test nation was against Belgium later that same year.

Sweden national rugby union team

The Sweden national rugby union team represents Sweden in men's international rugby union competitions, Sweden has been a member union of World Rugby since 1988 and is one of the 47 members of Rugby Europe. They play in the Rugby Europe Conference 1 North. Sweden has been trying to qualify for the Rugby World Cup since the 1991 Rugby World Cup, but has yet to make it to the final competition. A majority of the players are native Swedes based in Swedish clubs but there are a growing numbers of players from the UK and Ireland that have qualified for Sweden through ancestral eligibility, and from other countries who have become eligible to play for Sweden through residency.

St. Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground

St Helen's Rugby and Cricket Ground is a sports venue in Swansea, Wales, owned and operated by the City and County of Swansea Council. Used mainly for rugby union and cricket, it has been the home ground of Swansea RFC and Swansea Cricket Club since it opened in 1873.

Israel national rugby union team

The Israel national rugby union team is governed by Rugby Israel, which oversees all rugby union in Israel. As of 1 February 2015, Israel is ranked 57th in the IRB World Rankings.

Womens international rugby union

Women's international rugby union has a history going back to the late 19th century but it was not until 1982 that the first international fixture involving women's rugby union took place. The match was organised in connection with the Dutch Rugby Union's 50th anniversary. As part of the celebrations on June 13, 1982 the French national women's team played the Dutch, in Utrecht, Netherlands, with France winning 4–0 in a game that has since been recognised as the first ever women's international rugby union match.

The Portugal national women's rugby union team are a national sporting side of Portugal, representing them at rugby union. They have only ever played one 15-a-side test match - a one-off friendly against Germany - but are regular and successful participants at sevens, normally ranked in Europe's top 10 teams.

The Tonga women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Tonga, representing them at rugby union. The side first played in 2006 at the Women's Pacific Tri-Nations.

A test match in rugby union is an international match, usually played between two senior national teams, that is recognised as such by at least one of the teams' national governing bodies.

The Brazil women's national rugby union team are the national side of Brazil, representing them at rugby union. After several successful performances at Sevens rugby, they played their first 15-a-side fixture in May 2008 against Netherlands.

Rugby union is a minor, but growing, sport in Denmark.

The Switzerland women's national rugby union team are a national sporting side of Switzerland, representing them at rugby union. Although a regular entrant in the European sevens tournaments from 2003, it was not until 2009 that Switzerland formed a fifteen-a-side squad. In 2011, after two years playing only against club sides from neighbouring countries, Switzerland became the 56th international test match playing team when they played Belgium at Kituro Rugby Club, Schaerbeek, near Brussels.
