Sydanie is a Canadian rapper from Toronto, Ontario. She was highlighted as one of the new faces of Canadian hip hop, specifically in the Toronto music scene, by CBC and The Globe and Mail . [1] [2] Her album, 999, was long-listed for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize. [3] [4]

Early life

Sydanie Nichol was born to Jamaican and Trinidadian parents in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto. [5] She studied media communications at Humber College and has a daughter, Kifaaya. [5]

Career

In 2012, she released her first project, Public Intoxication. [5] Since then, she has toured with Lido Pimienta, [5] she has released several singles, [6] and her most recent album, 999, was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. [4] In 2019, she was highlighted as one of the new faces of Canadian hip hop, specifically in the Toronto music scene, by CBC and The Globe and Mail . [1] [2]

Her song "Purple Carousel" was a nominee for the 2021 SOCAN Songwriting Prize. [7] That year, she was also featured on the song "Bubble" by D. W. Waterson. [8]

The Sorority was a Canadian hip hop group founded in Toronto in 2016. The group originally comprised Keysha Freshh, Lex Leosis, Haviah Mighty, and pHoenix Pagliacci. They released their debut album, Pledge, in 2018. Pagliacci left the group in early 2019 to focus on her own R&B project, TRP.P, while the remaining members continued touring. The trio disbanded after their final show on November 24, 2019 to focus on their respective solo careers.

She co-founded and is the co-director of 88 Days of Fortune, a collective based in Toronto since 2009 that rebranded as Heart Lake Records in 2018. She also is a member of Above Top Secret, an electro-hip hop group. Above Top Secret has released three studio albums since 2010. DNA Activation was shortlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. In 2021, she released a new song "Leilani", which appeared on the deluxe edition of DNA Activation. The deluxe edition was released July 23, 2021. Her third album as Witch Prophet, entitled Gateway Experience, was released May 1st, 2023. The first single from the album, "Energy Vampire", was released on February 23, 2023 and featured DillanPonders. Gateway Experience was longlisted for the 2023 Polaris Music Prize.

Savannah Ré Simpson, simply known as Savannah Ré, is a Canadian R&B singer-songwriter from Scarborough, Ontario, whose debut EP Opia was released in 2020.
