Sydney Ashlyn Johnson-Scharpf (born August 2, 2000, in Orlando, Florida) is an American artistic gymnast and daughter of Brandy Johnson, a member of the 1988 USA Olympic Team.

Competitive history

2013

Johnson-Scharpf competed at the 2013 Nastia Liukin Cup and placed 23rd. [1] She later qualified to Elite and competed at the Secret U.S. Classic, finishing 18th. [2] At U.S. Nationals, Sydney placed 27th. [3]

2014

At the 2014 Secret US Classic, Johnson-Scharpf finished 31st in the all-around. [4]

She later advanced to the 2014 P&G Championships, finishing 25th after two days of competition. [5]

2015

Johnson-Scharpf attended the U.S. selection camp for the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy but was not named to the team.

Sydney competed at the Secret U.S. Classic, contributing scores of 14.400 on vault, 13.000 on bars, 14.000 on beam, and 13.750 on floor to a 7th place all-around finish of 55.150. [6]

Sydney competed at P&G Gymnastics Championships in the junior division. She finished 6th in the all-around with a two-day combined total of 110.900, earning a spot on the 2015-2016 Junior National Team. [7]

2016

In her first year as a Senior International Elite gymnast, Johnson-Schaarpf competed at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She finished 18th in the All-Around competition. [8]

In June 2016, Sydney suffered a knee injury and was not able to compete at the Secret U.S. Classic or the P&G Gymnastics Championships.

2017

Johnson-Scharpf competed at US nationals, where she placed fourth on floor.

Personal life

Sydney was born on August 2, 2000, in Orlando, Florida, to Brandy and Bill Johnson-Scharpf. Her mom, Brandy, is a former gymnast and represented the U.S. at the 1988 Olympics.

The family currently live in Groveland, Florida, and Sydney graduated from Montverde Academy in 2018. Sydney is in her senior year at the University of Florida with their gymnastics team and will graduate this spring (2022) with a degree in Digital Arts and Sciences. She is now dating Hugh Brittenham (2021–present), who is a Track & Field athlete at the University of Florida. [9]

Lauren Zoe Hernandez is an American artistic gymnast. In the individual events, Hernandez earned the silver medal on the balance beam. She returned to training in late 2018 and expressed interest in making a comeback to earn a spot on the U.S. women's gymnastic team for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but she did not qualify for the Olympic Gymnastics Trials.

Kennedy Baker is a retired American collegiate and artistic gymnast. She competed as an elite gymnast from 2009 through 2013 and has since retired. She had competed in collegiate gymnastics for the Florida Gators.

Level 10 is the highest level in the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympics Program. The level is open to women's artistic, men's artistic, trampoline, acrobatic and rhythmic gymnasts.

Rachel Kathryn Gowey is a former American artistic gymnast. She was a U.S. National Team member, from 2014 until her retirement from elite gymnastics in 2016, following her performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Alexandra Claire McMurtry is an American former artistic gymnast. She is the 2013 Nastia Liukin Cup champion and the 2017 NCAA Champion. She competed in NCAA gymnastics for the Florida Gators and was the 10th person in NCAA history to record a Gym Slam.

Emily Jane Schild is an American artistic gymnast. She has been a member of the U.S. National team since 2015 and made her international debut at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy. At the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto, she was part of the gold-winning US team.

Ashleigh Marie Gnat is a former American collegiate gymnast and coach. She competed for the Louisiana State University gymnastics team from 2014 to 2017. Gnat coached as an assistant coach at Penn State in 2020. She is now an assistant coach at her alma mater, Louisiana State University.

Trinity Lemyra Thomas is an American artistic gymnast and a four-time National Team member (2016–20). The 2020 American Cup was part of the World Cup circuit in artistic gymnastics. It was the only All-Around World Cup help in 2020 as the others were canceled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. This was the final edition of the American Cup competition.

Sloane Blakely is an American collegiate artistic gymnast and was a member of the United States women's national gymnastics team. She is currently competing for the Florida Gators in NCAA gymnastics. She is the older sister of gymnast Skye Blakely.
