The Sydney Supersonics are a defunct basketball team that competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). The team joined the NBL in 1979 as the City of Sydney Astronauts, becoming the Sydney Supersonics in 1982 as a result of a merger with state league team Eastern Suburbs. The Supersonics merged with the West Sydney Westars to form the Sydney Kings in 1988. [1] [2] [3]

The Sydney Kings are an Australian men's professional basketball team competing in the National Basketball League (NBL). The team is based in Sydney, New South Wales, and play their home games at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Olympic Park. The Kings were formed from a merger between the West Sydney Westars and the Sydney Supersonics in October 1987. The Kings have won five NBL championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2022 and 2023. They were the first team to win three consecutive championships in the NBL and currently sit third behind Melbourne United (six) and the Perth Wildcats (ten) for championships won.

Ian Davies was an Australian basketball player who played 252 games in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) for the Launceston Casino City (1980-1981), Newcastle Falcons (1982-1985), Geelong Supercats (1986-1987), Sydney Kings (1988-1990). Steve Breheny is an Australian basketball player and coach. He played eight years in the National Basketball League (NBL) for the Coburg Giants, the Geelong Cats and the St. Kilda Saints. At international level, he played for Australia at the 1980 Summer Olympics and the 1982 FIBA World Championship. After retiring, Breheny coached at NBL level for the Canberra Cannons and the Geelong Supercats. He also led Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) teams Coburg Cougars and Adelaide Lightning.

Kouat Noi is a South Sudanese-Australian professional basketball player for the USC Rip City of the NBL1 North. He is also contracted with the Sydney Kings of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL).
