Syeda Issabela was a Bangladeshi writer and veteran of Bangladesh Liberation war. [1]

Early life

Issabela was born in 1942 in Kolkata, West Bengal, British India. She studied at Sakhawat Memorial School. She moved to Sirajganj after the Kolkata riots on 16 August 1946 during Direct Action Day. [2] Her father was Syed Ishaq Shirazi and her great uncle was the notable writer Ismail Hossain Siraji. [2] Her mother was Asiya Khatun. She married Anwar Hossain Ratu with whom she had six children, five daughters and one son. [2] Her son, Kabir Bin Anwar, was a senior secretary and former president of Bangladesh Administrative Service Association. [3]

Career

Issabela worked as a teacher. After her retirement in 2002 she became a prolific writer and wrote 22 books. [2] She was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2021. [4]

Death

Issabela died on 12 January 2013. [2]

Nilufar Yasmin was a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet, Rajanikanta Geeti, Dwijendra Geeti and Atul Prasdi genre. She was the fourth of five Yasmin sisters of Bangladesh music. Her siblings are Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin, Nazma Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Shuvoda (1986).

Obaidul Huq was a Bangladeshi journalist, cinematographer, playwright and writer. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1981 by the Government of Bangladesh.

Mita Haque was a Bangladeshi Rabindra Sangeet singer. She had 14 solo musical albums released from India and 10 musical albums released in Bangladesh. She was awarded Ekushey Padak by the Government of Bangladesh in 2020 for her contributions to music.

Mumtaz Begum was a Bengali language activist from East Pakistan. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2012 by the Government of Bangladesh for her role in language movement.

Husna Banu Khanam was a Bangladeshi educationist, writer and Nazrul singer. She was a pioneer of Bengali Muslim women journalism. In 1999, she received the Ekushey Padak Award for her contribution in music, and in 2004, she received the Begum Rokeya Medal for her contribution to the socio-economic development of women by the Government of Bangladesh.

Fazlur Rahman Faruque is an Awami League politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Tangail-8 constituency during 1973–1975. He received the Ekushey Padak in 2021 for his contribution to Bangladesh Liberation war. Since 2017, he is serving as president of Tangail District unit of the Awami League. He is the District Council Administrator of Tangail District.

Mirza Tofazzal Hossain Mukul was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament of Tangail-5.

Motahar Hossain Talukder, also known as Motahar Master, was a politician from Sirajganj District of Bangladesh. He was posthumously awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2021 by the Government of Bangladesh for his significant contribution to the Bengali language movement.
