Synchronicity ('Rock Est Immortalis') [1] is the rock music festival of Antaragni the annual cultural festival of IIT Kanpur, held in the month of October, and is one of the popular college festivals in India. It is a three-day-long festival, attracting participation from over 400 rock bands of India.

History

Synchronicity [2] is the flagship event of Antaragni, the cultural festival of IIT Kanpur, which is a non-profit organisation run completely by students of IIT Kanpur.

It began as a simple rock band competition in 1988, has now grown into one of the largest college rock music festival of India, which sees participation from over 400 bands every year. Synchronicity went international in 2007 with performance of Poets of the Fall, the band which was voted the best Finnish act of 2006 by MTV.

The competition has been a launch-pad for some of India's top rock acts. Parikrama started their musical journey in the early 1990s by winning Synchronicity and went on to perform the world over, culminating in a critically acclaimed performance at the Download Festival. Synchronicity'10 witnessed the critically acclaimed bands Weaponshop and Them Clones on the final day.

Competition

The event starts with zonal preliminary rounds held in 9 major cities, where about 10 bands compete and out of them 1 or 2 ultimate performances get selected. These semi-finalists get to participate in the second round, held at IIT Kanpur during Antaragni. After National eliminations top 3 bands make it to the Grand Finale. The grand finale is judged by the members of the featured International bands and The event closes with special performance by guest bands.

The country is divided into nine zones Delhi, Mumbai, [3] Kolkata, [4] Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh and over 100 band register from each zone. From the registered bands 12 bands are selected from each zone to perform at the Roadtrip shows in the city which three bands are selected for the second stage at IIT Kanpur.

The shortlisted bands battle it out for two days at the national elimination, held at IIT Kanpur during Antaragni. In the end, only four bands are selected for the final night, where they perform as opening act to the international headlining acts.

In the final night the four bands which pass through the national elimination get a chance to open for the international headliner of Synchronicity. At the final stage of Synchronicity they compete for the title of Synchronicity winner and a prize money of worth five Lacs. The competition is headlined and judged by international artists.

Wildstone Synchronicity 2012

The twenty-fourth edition of the festival took place in 2012. Over 10,000 fans attended the festival over 3 days, with Black Queen Speaks and Solstice Coil headlining the event. The Family Cheese won the festival.

Mood Indigo, affectionately known as MoodI or MI, is the cultural and signature festival of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. It is usually held towards the end of December every year. Started in 1971 by a group of students, it has attracted considerable media attention and numerous sponsors over time. Mood Indigo is also held in over 2000+ colleges and universities before ending in IIT Bombay.

Spring Fest

Spring Fest, known as SF, is the annual social and cultural festival of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur held during January in the spring semester. The first edition was held in 1960. The 60th edition of Spring Fest was held from January 24 to 27, 2019.

Bhayanak Maut

Bhayanak Maut is an Indian metal band from Mumbai. The band's name was inspired by a B-Grade Hindi horror movie of the same name, which translates to "Horrific Death".

Rock 'n India was an annual music festival organised by event management company DNA Networks in conjunction with Nous Productions at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore. It was launched in 2008 as India's only music festival. Rock 'n India gave Indian bands the opportunity to play in front of large audiences alongside international artists. Throughout its existence, the festival featured iconic rock acts such as Megadeth, Machine Head, Iron Maiden, Biffy Clyro, Metallica and Slayer.

Five Little Indians, was an alternative rock band based in Kolkata. The band was formed in January 2007. Five Little Indians merged melodic rock and a heavier sound with singer-songwriter sensibilities. The band used Hindustani classical vocals and often mixed ragas with a rock sound.

Rendezvous (festival)

Rendezvous is North India's Largest Annual Cultural Festival organised by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. It is a four-day-long event held in October every year. In the 2019 version, Rendezvous hosted 280+ events, 15,000+ participants and 200+ artists from more than 25 countries.

Saarang

Saarang is the annual social and cultural festival of IIT Madras. It is a 5 day long festival usually in the second week of the year. Founded in 1974, Saarang is the second oldest college festival in India. It was started in the name of 'Mardi Gras' with a small number of quizzes and music events. It adopted the name 'Saarang' and grew with the help of corporate sponsorship, collaboration with large-scale event organizers and international artists.

Underground Authority

Underground Authority is an alternative rock / rap rock band from India. Formed in early 2010, in Kolkata, their music is flavoured by a blend of protest poetry, reggae, alternative rock, rap rock and hard rock. The band is noted for their socio-political messages / Anti-capitalism agenda in their song lyrics and also for their Music to express and not impress quote.

Sunburn Festival EDM Music Festival In India

Sunburn is a commercial electronic dance music festival held in India. From 2007 to 2015, it took place in Vagator, Goa, India every year, but in 2016 it was shifted to Pune, Maharashtra. However, for 2019, the festival came back to it home town in Vagator, Goa. It is Asia's largest music festival. The festival is an amalgamation of Music, Entertainment, Food and Shopping, and was ranked by CNN in 2009 as one of the Top 10 Festivals in the world. Mayank Kataria is the major event promoter. Waves is the annual cultural festival of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus. It is a three-day-long festival held in the late October – early November period. It is a cultural festival that is held annually to celebrate music, dance and art. It is an inter college festival with students coming in to participate in events and competitions from across the country.

Technothlon is an International School Championship organized by the IIT Guwahati. Technothlon began in 2004 with an aim to ‘Inspire Young Minds’. Starting on its journey with a participation of 200 students confined to the city of Guwahati, over the next 17 years Technothlon has expanded its reach to over 450+ cities all over India and various centers abroad.

ATMOS is the annual techno-management festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, located in Hyderabad, India. It is a three-day-long event, attracting participation from more than 100 colleges across the country. Ritambhara has witnessed judges like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kunal Kapoor, Kanika Kapur, Arnela Zekovic, Simran Kaur Mundi, Bidita Bag, Noyonita Lodh, Shilpa Singh. Started in 1964, by a group of enthusiastic IITians, Ritambhara, now in its 53rd edition serves as a platform for designers and models alike to showcase their talents and skills through several themed competitive events. It is a non-profit event run solely by the students of IIT Kanpur. It was initially small and was funded entirely by the Student Gymkhana of IIT Kanpur.But with time it acquired fame in the world of fashion and today the budget is raised through sponsorship. Over the years, Ritambhara has also attracted considerable media attention and numerous well-known sponsors.

University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata

The University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata is a private university located in New Town, Kolkata. It provides engineering, technological & management education. It was established in 2015 by IEM Trust, Act no. XXV and it is the third engineering institution founded by the IEM-UEM Group. This university is administrated by the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM) education group trust.

Jarugu Narasimha Moorthy is an Indian organic photochemist and the director of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram.He was a Dr. Jag Mohan Garg Chair Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He is known for his studies on photoreactivity and organization of organic molecules. and is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Indian Academy of Sciences. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 2008, for his contributions to chemical sciences.

Highway 69 (band) Indian metal band

Highway 69 is an Indian heavy metal band. The band was formed in 2012 in Ranchi by vocalist Tarang Kerketta and guitarist Alvin Rozario, and has been based in Ranchi ever since its formation. The band has been the winners of numerous battle of band titles across their country and is known for their fast tempos, instrumental and aggressive style of playing. The band has performed twice as the finalists at Hornbill International Rock Contest of Hornbill Festival in Nagaland for the year 2017 and 2018. Their drummer has also bagged the title of the 'Best Drummer' in the year 2017 at this festival and was felicitated by Uday Benegal from the Indus Creed which is a band considered to be the pioneers of the Indian rock music.
