Tyrin J. Atwood (born November 4, 1997) is an American professional basketball player currently playing for Plymouth City Patriots of the British Basketball League.

Early life and high school career

Atwood attended Central High School in Beaumont, Texas. He was a 2015 District 22-5A first-team selection, alongside teammate Nijal Pearson. Atwood committed to Lamar University out of high school. [1]

College career

Atwood was mostly a bench player during his first two seasons at Lamar. On January 26, 2019, Atwood was ruled out for the season after suffering a leg injury during an overtime win over Incarnate Word. [2] He averaged 10.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 19 games as a junior. [3] Atwood scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on December 18, in a 79–73 overtime win over Southeastern Louisiana. [4] He was named Southland Conference player of the week on February 24, 2020, after scoring 22 points in a 79–62 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. [5] As a senior, Atwood averaged 16.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game, earning Second Team All-Southland honors. [6] Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season was cancelled following a win against McNeese State in the Southland Tournament. Lamar coach Tic Price called Atwood "one of the classiest guys I ever coached." [7]

Professional career

On July 16, 2020, Atwood signed with the Svendborg Rabbits of the Danish Basketligaen. [8] On January 2, 2021, he signed with Depiro Rabat Imtarfa of the Maltese Division One league. [9] Atwood re-signed with the team on August 2. [10] On 12 November, Atwood was announced as a new signing for Iskra Svit of the Slovak Basketball League. [11] On July 31, 2023, Atwood signed for Plymouth City Patriots of the British Basketball League. [12]

The Lamar Cardinals and Lady Cardinals refers to the college athletics teams of Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals teams compete in seventeen NCAA Division I sports as a member of the Southland Conference. The Cardinals rejoined the Southland after spending the 2021–22 athletic year in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).

The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals currently play in the Southland Conference following a return from the Western Athletic Conference on July 11, 2022. They were one of four programs, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021, to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar left the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. After one season in the WAC, Lamar returned to the Southland Conference. The Cardinals have played home games in the Montagne Center since 1984. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs. The Cardinals have competed in NCAA Tournament play eleven times and six times at the NCAA Division I level with the most recent appearance in the 2012 tournament. The Lamar Lady Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I women's basketball competition. The team plays in the 10,080 seat Montagne Center. After one season in the Western Athletic Conference, Lamar rejoined the Southland Conference on July 11, 2022.

The 2013–14 Lamar Lady Cardinals basketball team represented Lamar University during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Lady Cardinals, led by first year head coach Robin Harmony, played their home games at the Montagne Center and are members of the Southland Conference. The Lady Cardinals finished the season tied for the Southland Conference regular season championship with Stephen F. Austin. The Lady Cardinals were the Number One seed in the conference tournament because of the conference tie-breaker. After falling to Northwestern Louisiana in the Conference tournament final game, the Lady Cardinals received and invitation to the WNIT. The Lady Cardinals played the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg, MS.

The Cardinals were led by first-year head coach Blane Morgan and played their home games at Provost Umphrey Stadium. Originally scheduled to play an eleven-game regular season schedule in 2020, the Cardinals played shortened 6 game schedule in Spring 2021 with all games against conference members due to the COVID19 Pandemic.
