Thettalil Parameswaran Pillai Sreenivasan (born 17 June 1944) [1] in Kayamkulam, Travancore) is a former Indian diplomat and is the head of the Council for Higher Education of the State of Kerala and also an adjunct professor of eminence at Somaiya Vidyavihar University [2] .
Sreenivasan was born in Kayamkulam as the son of K. Parameswaran Pillai, a school teacher and N. Chellamma. After school and studies at University College, part of the University of Kerala, in Thiruvananthapuram, [3] he joined the Indian Foreign Service (IFS batch, 1967). He is alma Mater of Government Boys' Higher Secondary School, Kayamkulam.
He was secretary of legation third class in Tokyo and legation secretary first class in Thimphu, Bhutan. From 1975 to 1977, he was secretary of legation first class in Moscow. From 1986 to 1989, he was Indian High Commissioner in Suva, Fiji and responsible for seven other island nations in the South Pacific. From 1992 to 1995, he was the Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN in New York; from 1995 to 1997, he assumed the office of the Indian High Commissioner in Nairobi, Kenya [4] and served as Permanent Representative of the Government of India at the United Nations Office at Nairobi. From 1997 to 2000 he was Deputy Ambassador in Washington, D.C.
From 2000 to 2004, he was Indian Ambassador in Vienna for Austria and Slovenia, as well as Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna. [4] He retired 30 June 2004.
Sreenivasan was the head of the Council for Higher Education of the State of Kerala and executive vice president with the rank of vice-chancellor. [5]
He has continued as a columnist for a variety of newspapers and magazines (see Rediff archive), as is the nonfiction author of autobiographical works to his 37-year diplomatic career. He had been married to Lekha Sreenivasan, [6] a Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, from 1968 until January 2023, when she died. The couple had two sons.

Karthikayil Padmanabhan Appan, better known as K. P. Appan, was a renowned literary critic in Malayalam. Born in Alappuzha (Alleppey), Kerala, Appan worked as a Professor of Malayalam literature at SN College, Kollam, Kerala.
N. S. Parameswaran Pillai or Nadakkal Parameswaran Pillai (1931–2010) is the co-founder of Indian Coffee Houses in Kerala with T. K. Krishnan. He is also the author of a history of Indian Coffee House, a worker cooperative.
Cannankara Velayudhan Raman Pillai, also known as C. V., was one of the major Indian novelists and playwrights and a pioneering playwright and novelist of Malayalam literature. He was known for his historical novels such as Marthandavarma, Dharmaraja and Ramaraja Bahadur; the last mentioned considered by many as one of the greatest novels written in Malayalam.
Maheshwari Amma, better known by her stage name K. P. A. C. Lalitha, was an Indian film and stage actress who worked primarily in the Malayalam film industry. She started her acting career with Kerala People's Arts Club, a theatre collective in Kayamkulam, Kerala. In a career spanning five decades, she starred in over 550 films.
Thirunalloor Karunakaran was a poet, scholar, teacher and leftist intellectual of Kerala, India.
Malikathazhathu Pulluvazhy Narayana Pillai, affectionately known as Nanappan among his friends, was a journalist and writer of Malayalam literature. Known for his novel, Parinamam, and a number of short stories including Murugan Enna Pambatty and George Aaramante Kodathi, Pillai was associated with Far Eastern Economic Review and McGraw-Hill World News. He was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel in 1991, but he declined the award.
P. T. Thomas was an Indian politician who served as a member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, represented Thrikkakkara assembly constituency from 2016 until his death in 2021. He was also a Member of Parliament who represented the Idukki Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, India. He belonged to Indian National Congress.
S. Guptan Nair was an Indian scholar, academic, critic and writer of Malayalam literature. Known for his literary works as well as for his oratorical skills, Nair was a prolific writer with over 35 books to his credit. He was a distinguished fellow of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi and a recipient of several honours including Kendra Sahitya Academy Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, Vallathol Award and Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the last one being the highest literary award of the Government of Kerala.
Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai (1898–1976), popularly identified as Swathithirunal Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai after his magnum opus, Swathithirunal, was an Indian author of Malayalam literature, actor, speaker, teacher and thinker. He was known for his plays which dealt with themes such as patriotism, sacrifice and justice and his characters showed heroism, showing influence of William Shakespeare. Kerala Sahitya Akademi awarded him their annual award for drama in 1970. He was also a recipient of the Kalyani Krishna Menon Puraskaram.
A. Jayashankar is an Indian lawyer, social critic, political analyst, and journalist from Kerala who is a member of the Communist Party of India. He is known for his sarcastic articles published in Madhyamam Weekly under the pseudonym K. Rajeshwari. He anchored the weekly news analysing show Varanthyam in the Malayalam news channel Indiavision. He appears as an analyst on various Malayalam TV networks and is popular for attacking CPI(M) leaders while backing CPI(M). He has often made remarks against several celebrities like Arundhati Roy, Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly Shri M. B. Rajesh.
V. P. Ramakrishna Pillai was an Indian politician, belonging to the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).
T. G. Mohandas is an Indian lawyer, social critic, writer, journalist and television presenter from Kerala. Mohandas was the state convener of Bharatiya Janata Party's Intellectual Cell and the General Secretary in 1997 of Bharateeya Vichara Kendram and its vice-president in 2006 and served also as General Manager of Ayodhya Printers, a company owned by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
T. P. Padmanabhan Nair also known as T. P. P. Nair was a volleyball player, former captain and coach of Indian National Volleyball Team. He was the first Malayali to become the captain of the national volleyball team. In 2015, he received Dhyan Chand Award the highest sports award in the country. He is the only Indian volleyball player to have won two Asian Games medals.
K. P. Sudheera is a Malayalam language writer from Kerala, India. She has published 80 works in various genres, including novels, poetry, travelogues, biographies, memoirs, translations, letters, and children's literature. Many of her works have been translated to Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada languages.
P. Madhavan Pillai was a polyglot, writer and translator from Kerala, India. He translated about 25 books from other languages into Malayalam, among them, the main work is 'Yayati'. He also translated many noted works from Malayalam to Hindi. He received many awards including the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize in 1994 and Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award.
