TEDxMcGill is an independently organised single-day TED conference in Montreal started in 2009 by students from McGill University, after which the event is named. [1] [2] [3]
The event was initiated by five students from the McGill University in 2009. Since then, TEDxMcGill has hosted annual conferences. The inaugural conference gathered 16 speakers from different backgrounds (students, professors, analysts, musicians, and Andy Nulman, the co-founder of the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival) to initiate discussions on the theme of "Talks for Tomorrow". Fifteen speakers and more than 600 people, including the McGill student body but also Montreal at large, met during the second conference themed "Relentless Curiosity" in 2010. [4] The 2011 event was held on November 13 at Bain Mathieu. [5] under the theme of Redefining Reality. [6] The 2016 conference was held on March 19, 2016, following the theme Paradigm Shift. This was followed by the 2017 TEDxMcGill conference held at the McCord Museum in Montreal on November 11, 2017, under the theme of Giving Voice [7] .The 2018 TEDxMcGill was also organised at the McCord Museum on November 24, 2018, with the theme of "Climbing Ladders". The 2019 "Pushing the Envelope" TEDxMcGill event was also held at the McCord Museum on November 16, 2019. In response to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2021 event adeptly transitioned into a virtual format, exploring the theme "Embracing the Unknown" on January 31. The subsequent year marked a return to in-person gatherings, as TEDxMcGill convened at l'Astral on November 13, 2021, under the theme "Illuminate".
The 2023 TEDxMcGill event was held at the Corona Theatre on Sunday, January 22, 2023. This edition's theme, 'Pale Blue Dot,' was based on a famous photograph in 1990 describing the Earth as a 'Pale Blue Dot', [8] sailing through the vast cosmos. This metaphorical theme can have different meanings for different people. Whether it’s leaving your mark, reframing the narrative, gaining perspective, zooming in or zooming out, the theme invited speakers and the audience to explore myriad interpretations and spark transformative discussions on the way they see life.
TEDxMcGill held its eleventh conference on February 4th, 2024, under the theme 'Kaleidoscope.' This theme represents a celebration of diversity, innovation, and the ever-evolving panorama of human creativity. Like a kaleidoscope, which creates intricate patterns by reflecting and refracting light through various mirrors, shapes, and colors, TEDxMcGill serves as a platform where a diverse array of perspectives, disciplines, and backgrounds converge. Through the theme 'Kaleidoscope,' TEDxMcGill aims to bring together a wide range of human thoughts and experiences. By turning the kaleidoscope of ideas, attendees will have the opportunity to uncover new patterns of thought and discover bright, colorful perspectives.
Christopher Terry Mosher, is a Canadian political cartoonist for the Montreal Gazette. He draws under the name Aislin, a rendition of the name of his eldest daughter Aislinn. Aislin's drawings have also appeared in numerous international publications, such as Punch, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, National Lampoon, Time, The Washington Star, The New York Times and the Canadian edition of The Reader's Digest. According to his self-published website, as of 2020, he is the author of 51 books.
The McCord Stewart Museum, formerly known as the McCord Museum of Canadian History, is a public research and teaching museum. The Museum’s Archives, Documentary Art, Dress, Fashion and Textiles, Indigenous Cultures, Material Culture and Photography collections, containing 2.5 million images, objects, documents and works of art, position it as the custodian of a remarkable historical heritage. It is located directly across the street from McGill University, in the downtown core of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
TED Conferences, LLC is an American-Canadian non-profit media organization that posts international talks online for free distribution under the slogan "ideas worth spreading". It was founded by Richard Saul Wurman and Harry Marks in February 1984 as a technology conference, in which Mickey Schulhof gave a demo of the compact disc that was invented in October 1982. Its main conference has been held annually since 1990. It covers almost all topics—from science to business to global issues—in more than 100 languages.

The Council was founded in London in 1963 and celebrated its 50th anniversary on 27 April 2013. The Congress of Black Writers and Artists was a meeting of leading black intellectuals for the purpose of addressing the issues of colonialism, slavery, and Négritude. The First Congress of Black Writers and Artists was organized by the Pan-African quarterly cultural, political, and literary review Présence Africaine. It was held in Paris, France, in September 1956. Ahmed Sékou Touré spoke at the Second Congress of Black Writers and Artists, which was held in Rome, Italy, in 1959. One of the most influential Congress was held in Montreal, Canada, at McGill University, October 11–14, 1968; it was organized primarily by the Caribbean Conference Committee and was described as the "largest Black Power conference ever held outside the United States"
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani – Hyderabad Campus is one of the five constituent campuses of the BITS Pilani university located in Hyderabad, India. BITS opened its campus in Hyderabad upon invitation by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2008 with the first batch of campus graduating in 2012. The Journal also publishes the Canadian Guide to Uniform Legal Citation and a series of podcasts since 2012.
Lara Stein is an American businesswoman and the founder and CEO of Boma Global. She is also the executive director (ED) of Women’s March Global, managing the Women's March movement and Chapters outside of the United States. Stein also acted as the interim executive director of MIT ReACT, a new institute-wide organization at MIT dedicated to developing a global educational platform for displaced populations and refugees. Ms. Stein was also the managing director (MD) of Singularity University’s global expansion and implementation strategy. Stein currently sits on the board of Equality Now and Lalela, a non-profit organization dedicated to education through the arts in South Africa.
The University of Birmingham Financial Forum is a student-run conference for hundreds of students that was founded in 2011 and held at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The McCall MacBain Arts Building is a landmark building located at 853 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal, Quebec, in the centre of McGill University's downtown campus. The Arts Building is the oldest existing building on campus, and it was designed in the Classical Revival style by John Ostell. Construction began in 1839, and the building's central block and east wing were completed in 1843. The west and north wings were finished in 1861 and 1925, respectively, after involving multiple architects, including Alexander Francis Dunlop and Harold Lea Fetherstonhaugh. Today, the Arts Building is made up of a central block and three distinct wings – Dawson Hall (east), Molson Hall (west) and Moyse Hall (north). The building currently houses the Department of French Language and Literature, the Department of English, and the Department of Art History and Communication Studies. It also hosts lectures for several other departments from the Faculty of Arts.
TEDxYouth@Doha is an independently organized TED conference which is localized to the youth in Qatar. The event is held annually in the month of November to commemorate United Nations Universal Children's Day. Youngsters across the nation aging from 15 - 18 are recruited as speakers in the event. TEDxYouth events are independently organized by schools and colleges across Doha and are run and hosted by the youth.

Until the mid-20th century, McGill also prescribed academic dress for its matriculating or enrolled students as well as its faculty. Koyal Rana is an Indian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Femina Miss India 2014. She came to attention at the age of 15 during MTV Teen Diva. At the age of 21 she represented India in Miss World 2014 that was held in London and ended up to be in the top 10 with the highest score. She was crowned Miss World Asia after the event.

Like other TEDx events, the event obtained a free license from TED to hold the conference, with organizers agreeing to follow certain principles. In May 2016, TEDxAuckland hosted 28 speakers at the Shed 10 venue on the waterfront in Auckland.

TEDxTauranga is an independent TEDx event held every 1–2 years in Tauranga, New Zealand. At TEDxTauranga, live speakers and entertainers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including TEDxTauranga, are self-organised by local volunteers. Other independently organised TEDx events in New Zealand include TEDxAuckland and TEDxWellington.
TEDx Tarfaya is a TED conference organized locally by the city of Tarfaya, Morocco. It's the first of its kind in the Sahara. The inaugural TEDx Tarfaya conference was held on May 4, 2013, at the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Museum.
