TEDxMcGill is an independently organised single-day TED conference in Montreal started in 2009 by students from McGill University, after which the event is named. [1] [2] [3]

History

The event was started by five students from the McGill University in 2009. Since then, TEDxMcGill has hosted annual conferences. The first conference gathered 16 speakers from different backgrounds (students, professors, analysts, musicians, and Andy Nulman, the co-founder of the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival) to initiate discussions on the theme of "Talks for Tomorrow". Fifteen speakers and more than 600 people, including the McGill student body but also Montreal at large, met during the second conference themed "Relentless Curiosity" in 2010. [4] The 2011 event was held on November 13 at Bain Mathieu. [5] under the theme of Redefining Reality. [6] The 2016 conference was held on March 19, 2016, following the theme Paradigm Shift. This was followed by the 2017 TEDxMcGill conference held at the McCord Museum in Montreal on November 11th 2017, under the theme of Giving Voice [7] .The 2018 TEDxMcGill was also organised at the McCord Museum on November 24th, 2018, with the theme of "Climbing Ladders". The 2019 "Pushing the Envelope" TEDxMcGill event was also help at the McCord Museum on November 16th 2019. The last TEDxMcGill event was held remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions on the 31st of January 2021, and discussed the theme of "Embracing the Unknown". The next TEDxMcGill event will be held in November of 2021.

TED Conferences LLC is an American media organization that posts talks online for free distribution under the slogan "ideas worth spreading". TED was conceived by Richard Saul Wurman, who co-founded it with Harry Marks in February 1984 as a conference; it has been held annually since 1990. TED's early emphasis was on technology and design, consistent with its Silicon Valley origins. It has since broadened its perspective to include talks on many scientific, cultural, political, humanitarian and academic topics. It has been curated by Chris Anderson, a British-American businessman, through the non-profit TED Foundation since July 2019.

The Canadian Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (CUMC) is a bilingual annual academic conference of undergraduate mathematics students at a Canadian university. It is principally sponsored by the Canadian Mathematical Society, through its Student Committee.

Andy Nulman

Andy Nulman, born 1959, is a Montreal-based businessman best known for his activities in co-founding and promoting the Just For Laughs comedy festival; under Nulman's stewardship, the festival grew from a two-day show to a month-long event drawing international audiences. Nulman also sold multimillion-dollar corporate sponsorships and creator and/or executive producer of more than 150 Festival TV shows, in a variety of languages, all over the world. He wrote, produced and hosted the 1997 CBC production of "The Worst of Just For Laughs," created the Gemini-award nominated gay sketch comedy show In Thru the Out Door for CBC and Showtime in 1998, and won a "Best Variety Series" Gemini Award for "The Best of Just For Laughs" in 1993.

TEDxLagos is an independent TEDx event held annually in Lagos, Nigeria. Like other TEDx events, the event obtained a free license from TED to hold the conference, with organizers agreeing to follow certain principles. In 2018, the refreshed TEDxLagos hosted 12 speakers at the Muson Centre.
