Table tennis competition has been in the Summer Olympic Games since 1988, with singles and doubles events for men and women. Athletes from China have dominated the sport, winning a total of 60 medals in 37 events, including 32 out of a possible 37 gold medals, and only failing to win at least one medal in one event, the inaugural Men's Singles event at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
The World Table Tennis Championships are table tennis competitions sanctioned by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The World Championships have been held since 1926, biennially since 1957. Five individual events, which include men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's double and mixed doubles, are currently held in odd numbered years. The World Team Table Tennis Championships, which include men's team and women's team events, were first their own competition in 2000. The Team Championships are held in even numbered years.
Omar Muhammadi Muhammad Muhammad Assar is an Egyptian table tennis player. He won silver in singles and gold in team play at the 2011 Arab Games in Doha. He also competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics in the Men's singles, but was defeated in the second round on both occasions.

Tin-Tin Ho is an English table tennis player, born and raised in London. She has won multiple national titles, as well as two Commonwealth silver medals, and appeared at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Manika Batra is an Indian table tennis player. She is the top female table tennis player in India and ranks world number 39 in ITTF as of May 2023. She is one of the female players who uses a long pimple rubber. She was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in 2020.
Wang Chuqin is a Chinese professional table tennis player. He is the top ranked player in the ITTF world ranking. Most recently, he was the silver medallist in men's singles, gold medallist in mixed doubles with Sun Yingsha and gold medallist in men's doubles with Fan Zhendong for the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships in Durban. He won the men's singles title at the WTT Cup Finals in 2021 and WTT Champions Xinxiang in 2022. He was crowned the men's singles title at WTT Champions Macao twice. Wang also won gold along with teammates Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun, Lin Gaoyuan and Ma Long at the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships. He won gold in the men's singles and mixed team events at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The mixed doubles table tennis event at the 2018 Asian Games took place from 29 to 30 August 2018 at the Jakarta International Expo. Seeds were based on the individual ITTF World Ranking lists published in August 2018 with a maximum of 2 pairs per country.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Andrey Rublev of the Russian Olympic Committee defeated compatriots Elena Vesnina and Aslan Karatsev in the final, 6–3, 6–7(5–7), [13–11] to win the gold medal in Mixed Doubles tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Australia's Ashleigh Barty and John Peers won the bronze medal following a withdrawal from Serbia's Nina Stojanović and Novak Djokovic. 32 competitors from 14 countries participated.
The 2021 World Table Tennis Championships was held in Houston, United States from 23 to 29 November. It was the 56th edition of the championships and the first time the competition was held in the United States. Houston became the host by beating Agadir, Morocco in 2019.
Shunsuke Togami is a Japanese table tennis player. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's singles and men's team events at the 2021 Asian Table Tennis Championships held in Doha, Qatar. He also won the gold medal in both the men's doubles and mixed doubles events. He won the 2022 Japan Championships beating Kenta Matsudaira in the final 4-2.

The table tennis tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 27 July to 10 August at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. A total of 172 table tennis players, with an equal distribution between men and women, will compete across five medal events at these Games, the exact same amount as those in the previous editions. After a hugely successful Tokyo 2020, the mixed doubles tournament remains in the table tennis program for the second time at the Olympics.
