Taeryong River is a river of North Korea. [1] The river is a tributary of the Ch'ongch'on River.
Korea is a peninsular region in East Asia. Since 1945,it has been divided at or near the 38th parallel,now known as the Korean Demilitarized Zone. In 1948,two states declared independence,both claiming sovereignty over all of Korea:South Korea comprising its southern half and North Korea comprising its northern half. The region consists of the Korean Peninsula,Jeju Island,and a number of minor islands near the peninsula. The peninsula is bordered by China (Manchuria) to the north and Russia to the northeast,across the Amnok and Duman rivers. It is separated from Japan to the southeast by the Korea Strait.
The Korean War was fought between North Korea and South Korea from 1950 to 1953. The war began on 25 June 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea. The war ceased with an armistice on 27 July 1953. North Korea was supported by China and the Soviet Union while South Korea was supported by the United States and the United Nations (UN).

Pyongyang is the capital and largest city of North Korea,where it is sometimes labeled as the "Capital of the Revolution". Pyongyang is located on the Taedong River about 109 km (68 mi) upstream from its mouth on the Yellow Sea. According to the 2008 population census,it has a population of 3,255,288. Pyongyang is a directly administered city with a status equal to that of the North Korean provinces.
The Yalu River or Amnok River is a river on the border between China and North Korea. Together with the Tumen River to its east,and a small portion of Paektu Mountain,the Yalu forms the border between China and North Korea. Its valley became the scene of several military conflicts in the past centuries.
The Yellow Sea is a marginal sea of the Western Pacific Ocean located between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula,and can be considered the northwestern part of the East China Sea. It is one of four seas named after common colour terms,and its name is descriptive of the golden-yellow color of the silt-ridden water discharged from major rivers.
The Han River or Hangang is a major river in South Korea,with some of its tributaries and drainage basin in North Korea. It is the fourth longest river on the Korean peninsula after the Yalu ("Amnok"),Tumen ("Tuman"),and Nakdong rivers. The Tumen River,also known as the Tuman River or Duman River,is a 521-kilometre (324 mi) long river that serves as part of the boundary between China,North Korea (right) and Russia (left),rising on the slopes of Mount Paektu and flowing into the Sea of Japan. The river has a drainage basin of 33,800 km2.
The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula near the 38th parallel north. The demilitarized zone (DMZ) is a border barrier that divides the peninsula roughly in half. It was established to serve as a buffer zone between the countries of North Korea and South Korea under the provisions of the Korean Armistice Agreement in 1953,an agreement between North Korea,China,and the United Nations Command.
Kaesong is a special city in the southern part of North Korea,and the capital of Korea during the Taebong kingdom and subsequent Goryeo dynasty. The city is near the Kaesong Industrial Region close to the border with South Korea and contains the remains of the Manwoldae palace. Called Songdo while it was the ancient capital of Goryeo,the city prospered as a trade centre that produced Korean ginseng. Kaesong now functions as North Korea's light industry centre.
Ryanggang Province is a province in North Korea. The province is bordered by China (Jilin) to the north,North Hamgyong to the east,South Hamgyong to the south,and Chagang to the west. Ryanggang was formed in 1954,when it was separated from South Hamgyŏng. The provincial capital is Hyesan. In South Korean usage,"Ryanggang" is spelled and pronounced as "Yanggang" Korean: 양강도;RR: Yanggang-do,Korean pronunciation:[jaŋ.ɡaŋ.do]).
Dandong,formerly known as Andong,is a coastal prefecture-level city in southeastern Liaoning province,in the northeastern region of People's Republic of China.
Sinŭiju,known before 1925 in English as Yeng Byen City,is a city in North Korea which faces Dandong,Liaoning,China,across the international border of the Yalu River. It is the capital of North P'yŏngan province. Part of the city is included in the Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region,which was established in 2002 to experiment with introducing a market economy. In recent years,the city,despite lagging behind the development in the capital Pyongyang,has seen a small construction boom and increasing tourism from China.
The Taedong River (Korean: 대동강) is a large river in North Korea. The river rises in the Rangrim Mountains of the country's north where it then flows southwest into Korea Bay at Namp'o. In between,it runs through the country's capital,Pyongyang. Along the river are landmarks such as the Juche Tower and Kim Il-sung Square.
Korea comprises the Korean Peninsula and 3,960 nearby islands. The peninsula is located in Northeast Asia,between China and Japan. To the northwest,the Amnok River separates Korea from China and to the northeast,the Duman River separates Korea from China and Russia. The Yellow Sea lies to the west,the East China Sea and Korea Strait to the south,and the Korean East Sea to the east. Notable islands include Jeju Island (Jejudo),Ulleung Island (Ulleungdo),and the Liancourt Rocks.
The Battle of Taejon was an early battle of the Korean War,between U.S. and North Korean forces. Forces of the United States Army attempted to defend the headquarters of the 24th Infantry Division. The 24th Infantry Division was overwhelmed by numerically superior forces of the Korean People's Army (KPA) at the major city and transportation hub of Taejon,now spelled as Daejeon. The 24th Infantry Division's regiments were already exhausted from the previous two weeks of delaying actions to stem the advance of the KPA.
The China–North Korea border is an international border separating China and North Korea,extending from Korea Bay in the west to a tripoint with Russia in the east. The total length of the border is 1,352 kilometers (840 mi). The current border was created by two secret treaties signed between China and North Korea in 1962 and 1964.
