Mullah Taha [1] is a Shia muslim gay cleric [2] from Iran. [3] [4] He is the son of a cleric and attended Islamic school at the age of 15, [5] [6] where he realized his homosexuality [7] and attained the rank of Hujjat al-Islam . [8] After officiating gay marriages in secret, [9] [10] he was questioned by other clerics and threatened with death [10] [4] and forced by the Iranian government to flee to Turkey, [11] where he has lived as of 2016. [12] [13] [14] He reported being treated with suspicion from both the Muslim community and the LGBTQ community. [15] He is temporarily in Turkey as his finale destination is Canada. [16]
