Tara Priya (born Tara Priya Chandra) [1] is a London-based [2] American singer-songwriter and vocalist. Tara Priya was born in San Francisco to a Persian mother, the niece of poet Sohrab Sepehri, and an Indian father. [3]

Early life

Tara Priya attended The Harker School in San Jose prior to Columbia University in New York City. [4] Priya majored in economics while studying jazz and classical voice. [5] After graduating from Columbia two years early, Priya moved to Los Angeles to focus on her career as a singer-songwriter. [6] She started off by singing hooks on rap demos in underground hip-hop studios in exchange for recording time for her own R&B/soul music. [7]

Career

Immediately after releasing a six-track Motown-inspired EP, [8] Priya was nominated as one of the Best Emerging Artists by The Deli Magazine . [9] Shortly after, Priya was selected as one of three "Pop" genre finalists of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest [10] and named a category winner in the Billboard Song Contest. [11] [12]

In January 2012, Priya signed to Japanese indie P-Vine Records [13] after her EP was discovered in a record shop in Kobe, Japan. [7] [14] There, her first radio single "Run Like Hell" peaked at number 25 [15] on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and number six [16] on the Billboard Japan Digital and Airplay chart. This led to two subsequent tours of Japan, through Tower Records and Billboard Live, respectively. [17]

Clear Entertainment, a subsidiary of David Letterman's Worldwide Pants Incorporated, [18] signed Priya to their management roster. [19] The following March, Priya showcased at SXSW 2013 in Austin, TX, [20] after which she was named an "emerging icon" by The Huffington Post . [21] She then moved to London to work with British music producer Steve Booker on her 2014 album, Shot in the Dark, which was released in Asia by P-Vine Records and published by the Avex Group. [7]

In autumn 2014, British popular music and fashion magazine and website Clash premiered new music from Priya, noting that the track was "somewhere between classic soul, trip hop and the slumped productions of J Dilla". [22] The track, titled "One Foot Out", was co-produced by Priya and represented a significant departure from her earlier music. [22] Subsequent releases throughout 2015 gained her UK press and radio support, including by Time Out London, [23] BBC Radio 2's Jamie Cullum, [24] Tom Robinson of BBC Radio 6 Music, [25] and UK record label and club Ministry of Sound. [26]

In November 2016, The Independent premiered new music from Tara Priya, noting the singer "has been tipped for big things" and comparing her "sensual trip hop and soul" sound to fellow Londoner Sinéad Harnett. [27]

Pop Diva

"Pop Diva" is a song recorded by Japanese musician Kumi Koda, taken as the fourth and final single from her ninth studio album Dejavu (2011). It premiered on February 2, 2011 by Rhythm Zone and Avex Music Creative Inc. in two physical formats and for digital consumption. The song was written, composed, arranged and produced by musical artist Lil' Showy, making it one of few tracks from Dejavu to not be written by Koda.

Japonesque is the tenth studio album by Japanese recording artist Kumi Koda. It was released on January 25, 2012 by Rhythm Zone. It was also released just a little under a year after her 2011 album, Dejavu. Japonesque marks Koda's tenth consecutive studio album to be produced by Japanese producer and manager Max Matsuura, amongst many other producers, while she contributes to the album as the lead vocalist, background vocalist, and songwriter to majority of the songs. Recorded in Japanese with minor phrases in English language, Japonesque is a Japanese pop album with numerous musical elements such as dance music, R&B, electronica, and rock music.

Chvrches Scottish synthpop group

Chvrches are a Scottish pop group from Glasgow, formed in September 2011. The band consists of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and, unofficially since 2018, Jonny Scott. Mostly deriving from the synth-pop genre, Chvrches also incorporate indietronica, indie pop, and electronic dance into their sound.

Tsuki (song) 2014 single by Namie Amuro

"Tsuki" is a song recorded by Japanese singer Namie Amuro for her ballad-inspired concept compilation, Ballada (2014). It was distributed by Avex Trax and Amuro's record label, Dimension Point, on January 29, 2014 in Japan, and released worldwide as a digital single by Avex Music Creative Inc. The physical and digital formats included the two B-side tracks "Neonlight Lipstick" and "Ballerina", which later served as promotional singles online. "Tsuki" was written by Tiger, whilst production was handled by Hiro Doi and Zetton. Musically, the single is a J-Pop ballad with instrumentation consisting of synthesizers, bells, and chimes.

Izzy Bizu English singer-songwriter

Isobel Bizu Beardshaw, better known as Izzy Bizu, is an English-Ethiopian singer-songwriter signed to Epic Records. Bizu has garnered mainstream radio support from BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac and Phil Taggart and BBC Radio 1Xtra's Trevor Nelson. She has supported Coldplay, Sam Smith, Rudimental, and Foxes on their latest UK tours. In November 2015, Bizu was shortlisted for a Brit Critics' Choice award and longlisted for BBC's Sound of... 2016. She won the BBC Music Introducing Award at the 2016 ceremony. On 25 June 2016, Bizu performed on the Park Stage at the Glastonbury Festival.

Desiigner American rapper

Sidney Royel Selby III, better known by his stage name Desiigner, is an American rapper and singer-songwriter. In December 2015, his debut single "Panda" reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. In 2019, he was released from Def Jam and is currently an independent artist.

"Red Carpet" is a song recorded by Japanese singer Namie Amuro. It was released on December 2, 2015 via Avex Trax and her label Dimension Point as the singer's third consecutive non-album single, being supported by B-side track "Black Make-Up". "Red Carpet" was distributed in two physical formats—a standard CD, and a CD and DVD bundle—and was made available for digital consumption. The recording was written and composed by Matthew Tishler, Paula Winger, Stephanie Lewis and Tiger, whilst production was handled by Tishler. Musically, the track features guitars, synthesizers, keyboards and drums as instrumentation. Lyrically, the songwriting focuses on themes of self-confidence, empowerment and narcissism, and uses the title as a metaphor for life experiences.
