Gombe State is a state in northeastern Nigeria, bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Borno for 93 km in the vicinity of Gongola River and Lake Dadin Kowa and Yobe in the vicinity of Gongola River for 140 km, to the south by Taraba State for 58 km, to the southeast by Adamawa State for 95 km, and to the west by Bauchi State for 277 km. Gombe is the state capital of Gombe state and it was formed from a part of Bauchi State on 1 October 1996. Of the 36 states in Nigeria, Gombe is the 21st largest in area and the 32nd most populous, with an estimated population of about 3.25 million as of 2016. The state bears a slogan "Jewel in the Savannah".
Taraba is a state in north-eastern Nigeria, named after the Taraba River, which traverses the southern part of the state. It is known as "Nature's Gift to the Nation". Its capital is Jalingo. The state's main ethnic groups are the Fulani, Mumuye, Mambilla, Jukun, Kuteb, Karimjo Wurkun, Tiv, Yandang, Ndola, Ichen, Jenjo, Tigon, and Jibu. The northern part is mainly dominated by the Fulani, Wurkun, Mumuye and Sho. The southern part is dominated by the Jukun, Tiv, Chamba, Kuteb and Ichen. The central region is mainly occupied by the Fulani, Mambilla, Ndola, Tigon, Jibu, Wurbo, and Daka people. There are about 80 distinct ethnic groups and their languages in the state.
Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha is a Nigerian politician of Igbo extraction, from Imo State. He is the senator representing Imo West senatorial district at the 9th Nigerian Senate. From 2011 to 2019 he served as Governor of Imo State.

He previously served as the deputy governor of Taraba State from 2015 to 2023, and as member of the House of Representatives for Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency from 2011 to 2015. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The 2023 Taraba State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the governor of Taraba State, concurrent with elections to the Taraba State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election, which was postponed from its original 11 March date, was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Darius Ishaku was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Kefas Agbu held the office for the PDP by defeating NNPP nominee Muhammad Sani Yahaya.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Ekiti State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Ekiti State. Taraba South Senatorial District encompasses five local government areas: Donga, Ibi, Takum, Ussa, and Wukari. David Jimkuta is the current senator representing the district after winning in the 2023 Nigerian general election.
