The 5th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was a bicameral legislature inaugurated on 3 June 2003 and ran its course till 5 June 2007. [1] [2] The assembly comprises the Senate and the House of Representatives. A total of 360 representatives were elected as members of the House of Representatives, while 109 members were elected to the Senate, making a total of 469 members across the six geopolitical zones. The Senate President presides over the Senate, the higher chamber while the Speaker presides over the House of Representatives. [5] [6] Adolphus Wabara was elected as Senate President on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and Aminu Bello Masari, the Speaker of the House of Representatives succeeded Ghali Umar Na'Abba, the speaker of the 4th Assembly. He was the speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007. Masari hails from Masari village of Kafur local government area of Katsina State. In recognition of his service to Nigeria, Aminu Masari received the National Award of honour of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 2005, by His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR. This is in addition to the several other honours and awards that he has been dressed with.

The 2019 Katsina State gubernatorial election occurred in Nigeria on 9 March 2019. Incumbent APC Governor Aminu Bello Masari won re-election for a second term, defeating PDP Garba Yakubu Lado and 16 other party candidates.

The 2011 Katsina State gubernatorial election occurred on 26 April 2011. PDP candidate Ibrahim Shema won the election, defeating CPC Aminu Bello Masari and 8 other candidates.

The 2015 Katsina State gubernatorial election was the 6th gubernatorial election of Katsina State. Held on 11 April 2015, the All Progressives Congress nominee Aminu Bello Masari won the election, defeating Musa Nashuni of the People's Democratic Party.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections</span>

The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.

The 2023 Katsina State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the governor of Katsina State, concurrent with the elections to the Katsina State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election was postponed from its original 11 March date, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Aminu Bello Masari was term-limited and could not seek for re-election to a third term. Umar Dikko Radda — the former SMEDAN Director-General — held the governorship for the APC by a margin of 27% over former Senator Garba Yakubu Lado, the PDP nominee.

The 2023 Sokoto State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Sokoto State, concurrent with elections to the Sokoto State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Former Deputy Governor Ahmad Aliyu gained the office for the APC by a margin of ~6% over the PDP nominee — former Secretary to the State Government Saidu Umar.
