Edo, officially known as Edo State, is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of the federal republic of Nigeria. Nigeria has 774 local government areas (LGAs), each administered by a local government council consisting of a chairman, who is the chief executive, and other elected members, who are referred to as councillors. Each LGA is further subdivided into a minimum of ten and a maximum of twenty wards. A ward is administered by a councillor, who reports directly to the LGA chairman. The councillors fall under the legislative arm of the Local Government, the third tier of government in Nigeria, below the state governments and the federal government.

Clifford Ordia is a Nigerian engineer and politician who hails from Usugbenu Irrua in Esan Central local government area of Edo State. He served as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, representing the people of Edo Central senatorial district, Edo State, in the Nigerian Senate. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Edo Central senatorial district in Edo State covers five local governments areas which include Esan South-East, Igueben, Esan North East, Esan West and Esan Central. The senatorial seat has been vacant since the swearing in of Monday Okpebholo as governor of Edo State on 12 November 2024.

The Edo South senatorial district in Edo State covers seven local governments which include Oredo, Ovia South West, Egor, Ovia North East, Orhionmwon, Ikpoba Okha and Uhunmwode local government areas. Oredo LGA is the headquarters of Edo South. The current representative of Edo South is Neda Imasuen of the Labour Party (LP). 

Joseph Eghonghon Edionwele is a politician and member of the 8th and 9th Assembly representing Esan Central/Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency, Edo State. He is popularly known as Joe Edionwele.

The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Edo State will be held on 25 February 2023, to elect the 3 federal Senators from Edo State, one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election, as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives; with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2023 Nigerian presidential election in Edo State</span>

The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Edo State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
