The 6th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was a bicameral legislature inaugurated on 5 June 2007 and ran its course till 6 June 2011. The assembly comprises the Senate and the House of Representatives. 360 representatives were elected as member of the House of Representative while 109 members were elected as member of the senate, making a total of 469 members all together. Presiding officers

The Senate President presides over the Senate, the higher chamber while the Speaker presides over the House of Representatives. [3] [4]

David Mark was elected Senate President on the platform of People's Democratic Party and Dimeji Bankole, the Speaker of the House of Representatives succeeded Patricia Etteh, who was forced to resign on alleged mismanagement of funds. [5] [6] [7] [8]

David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark ; born 8 April 1948) is a retired Nigerian Army brigadier general and politician. He served as the 12th president of the Nigerian Senate from 2007 to 2015 and was the Senator for Benue South senatorial district from 1999 to 2019. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Prior to his senatorial career, Mark was the military Governor of Niger State from 1984 to 1986, and is a former minister of communication. The people at the funeral were attacked by gunmen thought to also be Fulani.

Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 32 constituencies with members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the majority. The Assembly was inaugurated on 1 June 2015. The elected presiding officer (Speaker) was Ikuinyi O. Ibani, until 19 December, when he resigned and was replaced by Adams Dabotorudima. In December 2016, Ikuinyi O. The 2015 Nigerian Senate election in Benue State was held on March 28, 2015, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Benue State. Barnabas Andyar Gemade representing Benue North East and George Akume representing Benue North West won on the platform of All Progressives Congress, while David Mark representing Benue South won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
