The Senate is the upper chamber of Nigeria's bicameral legislature, the National Assembly. The National Assembly is the nation's legislature and has the power to make laws, as summarized in chapter one, section four of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The lower chamber is the House of Representatives.

Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe is a Nigerian politician who has served as the senator representing Abia South senatorial district since 2007. He previously served as deputy governor of Abia State from 1999 until his resignation and subsequent impeachment in March 2003. He was the minority leader in the 9th senate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Nigeria, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). David Nweze Umahi is a Nigerian politician who serves as the minister of works of Nigeria. He previously served as the senator representing Ebonyi South senatorial district from June to August 2023, and as the governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023; and deputy governor from 2011 to 2015.

All but three were held on 2 March 2019 with the election for Rivers State being postponed until 4 April, while the Kogi State and Bayelsa State elections were both held on 16 November. Darlington Nwokocha is a Nigerian politician who served as the senator representing Abia Central senatorial district from June to November 2023. Before his election to the Senate, he was a member of the House of Representatives, representing Isiala-Ngwa North/Isiala-Ngwa South from 2015 to 2019. He served as the Chairman on Insurance and Actuarial Matters during his time in the House. Nwokocha was a member of the Abia State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. His term in the senate was shortlived as a result of his election being nullified by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.
